Short drabble.
When Tauriel first looks at the black-haired dwarf, she does not know what seems to draw her to him. It tugs on her like an annoying child, and she cannot seem to shake it off.
Tauriel's gift is not one to be trifled with- she hates it, despises it, but she owes Thranduil a debt that can never, ever be repaid- so she does not keep it pressed down inside, but she does not let it roam free either. Tauriel has always had difficulty truly seeing others for what they are. It is one caused by her gift- the darkness and mist that shrouds others blocks her from really discerning them- she would rather see too little than too much, and she can never seem to reach beyond that mist, so she is contented with what she knows.
There is something different about him- the hard mist still surrounds him, but the darkness is not visible- it is still there, hidden in his eyes, and he seems to know of it, as does his fair haired brother- but instead of turning her away, it pulls her to him. This time, Tauriel is not satisfied with what she knows, and she grabs for more. It is unfamiliar to her, as is the cold panic that grips her heart when she learns of what has transpired.
She is known for being impulsive and precipitate, and she knows it is true. Her willful heart has never been one for following rules anyway- so she leaves swiftly, the string leading her to him. Tauriel knows she would not be alone, and she is right, so when her fair haired childhood friend shows up by her side, her confidence in her gift (this time, it is truly one) increases, and his reassuring presence by her side helps dull the worry she feels for the son of Durin.
When Tauriel finally finds him in Laketown, she is reminded what drew her to him. This time, instead of darkness, she sees a absolute fire in his eyes, the promise of blood scattering in the breeze, and it scares her, because she does not want it to happen. She prays she is wrong, but she was never wrong before. For once, she wishes she could glimpse her own- if only to know what will happen to him.
A disconsolate fear begins to rise in her- Tauriel pushes it down firmly, and promises herself she will not let it happen.
Even if she knows that there is nothing she can do to stop it.
