"Brilliant! Oh you're going to just LOVE this one Rose! Second most beautiful planet in existence in my opinion. Makes Earth look like a dump really…" The Doctors excited string of words trailed off as he continued to spin around the Tardis' console.

The Tardis had been in motion several times that day and every time Rose had been where she was now, sitting in the jump seat and watching the Doctor jump around like some kind of excited puppy.

"I thought you loved Earth, Doctor?" A little bit of annoyance colored Rose's tone as the Doctor insulted her home planet… sure there weren't giant mountains of pure diamond or bioluminescent grass but Earth was breathtaking in its own merit.

That stopped him in his tracks and he turned, giving Rose a slightly sheepish look. "I do but…"

"But what Doctor?"

"It's a little plain… all those basic colors… no real flare…" At these words for the distracted Timelord, an alarm started buzzing; the Tardis' console need attention and it needed it NOW! "ROSE! GRAB THAT THINGY OVER THERE! THE PURPLE ONE!" The Doctor practically flew to the other side of the console to twiddle things and pull levers.

Rose reached for a purple lever, tugging it to a down position. The Tardis gave a large lurch and she couldn't be sure if it was a good lurch or a bad lurch. It was rather hard to tell with the Tardis. But the Tardis itself reassured the Blonde before the Doctor could even get to it. The ship gave a warm hum Rose could more feel rather than hear.

"Brilliant job Rose! Just amazing! I really should teach you to operate the Tardis on your own… But now is not the time!" The Doctor smiled brightly and grabbed Rose's hand, practically dragging her to the Tardis doors, grabbing his coat along the way. "Allons-Y!" The erratic man threw the doors open and practically leapt through them in his excitement. He stopped, gesturing to Rose to look at the scene.

Rose stepped through the doors and the excited look that had graced her face melted into disappointment. "Doctor… everything is black and white except for us…"

"WHAT?! The Doctor looked around, very confused. The world around him was vivid; the grass a deep shade of moiar and the atmosphere was fihjun. Earth was pretty, but it grew in such a limited range of colors… he wanted Rose to see what the universe could manage… but why couldn't she see all these wonderful colo-"Oooooh oh ooooo… I see… well that is a shame… Humans… such funny little creatures… so limited…"

Rose looked hurt and offended at his words. She crossed her arms over her chest and glared. "Oi! What'd'ya mean by limited!"

"No no no Rose let me explain." The Doctor moved closer and stood face to face with Rose. "Eyes have structures called Rods and Cones to sense colors. Canines on your world have two types of Rods and Cones. They can see blue and green and any mix of the two, but because they lack a red Cone and Rod they can't see red or yellow or orange and any other color that stems from red. Humans have three types. Red, green, and blue. Which is quite extraordinary considering you haven't been around very long. Butterflies have 5 different types, which means they can see two more colors that humans probably don't even have names for. The real kicker is the Mantis shrimp… which doesn't technically count as a comparison as they are native to this planet and were introduced to your planet via a cruise a couple million years back-"

Rose snapped her fingers, she wasn't lost but she knew the Doctor could go on for days about shrimp and space tourism. "Doctor… can you get to the point?

"A-ah yes! The mantis shrimp have 16 different types of Rods and Cones… but Timelords have 20… The point is that you can't see how beautiful this planet is because you don't have the right eyes."

"Well then this is a waste of time…" Rose turned, heading back to the Tardis doors feeling humiliated and inferior. The Doctor caused those feelings more often than he realized, pointing out things Rose couldn't do because she was human. She didn't resent him for it… but it did hurt sometimes.

"Wait! Rose come back!" The Doctor burst violently through the doors, earning him a scolding hum from the sentient ship, and ran after his companion, grabbing her hand. "I have an idea!"
