Always too late
Tears spill and fall because of what?
It's because we've aged too much
He knew she was young and naive, and just a bit too temperamental. But even so, he would try his best to make her notice his love for her or to tease her beyond any logic. He knew this was all he could do for now. Unfortunately he waited too long, and then it was too late.
She always wanted to see beyond his outer character, to see the boy inside the cat, and deep down pray that he wouldn't be a catboy forever. Praying for some change, for him to learn to stay put in one place and not leave her along, just like his father before him. Eventually she gave up, wanting to became a catgirl herself, escaping this place that hurt so much. She failed to notice he had changed for her, and in the end it was too late.
He still visited.
She still waited.
And years went by. The same routine. The same longing.
Both didn't marry. Not to each other, not to another.
He would play the violin and tell her stories of his cat companion, poor kitty gone back to his heart, catboy façade faded.
She would sing and paint landscapes while faintly remembering her dearest companions, tears falling gently down her cheeks.
His grandnephews would visit him, bringing joy to the pair of growing elders. She would crave motherhood and he would crave her, her smile which had been long gone. Both failed to notice the possible happiness at the distance of one heart.
His sister watched it unfold. How the younger girl died with a heart-attack, her love unspoken. How he died some time later, his love washed away. And how wrong it felt to see both their graves separated. 'Beloved daughter/son, cherished sister/brother'. Nothing else, so much more than it.
She knew it then that it had always been doomed.
Her brother had visited.
Her friend had waited.
And it had always been too late.

Hey, it's a drabble by me...I think (yes, I'm an ignorant to the point of not being sure this is a drabble). I just wanted to make up to my reviews for still not having updated FL and the waited prequel to MP. This is like a present to all of you. It's short, but that was my intention. And sad. In case you don't understand, it's like they never confessed to one another (minus the forgotten confession that was presented to us on episode 74 -kirakira- xD). And yes, it's sad...AGAIN! Sorry about that. I was really inspired to this one. And my inspiration goes to Clannad's song Komorebi (can't you tell I love Clannad? ;.;) and Vocaloid (Aku no Musume related songs), although the later one does not relate in lyrics, but in emotion. Hope you like it and review so that I'll have even more urge to write FL's final chapters and MP prequel.
