She had first caught his eye only a few months before. It had been… oh, maybe during the Fudoumine match, when she and her friend had been watching Echizen's every move avidly. At that moment, he had felt… something. It had startled him, really, because Tezuka Kunimitsu had never really felt attraction before. Ever.
But at that moment, feeling heat rising to his cheeks, he had gazed at the small girl with something bordering just that.
What was her name? That's right… Ryuzaki Sakuno. Quiet, diminutive, and shy, she had had a crush on Echizen since the beginning of school. Most of the younger girls did, truthfully. Tennis players tended to exude a certain charisma that attracted people to them. Even the unfriendly Kaidoh Kaoru had girls swooning over him. (Not that he ever noticed. Kaidoh had a way of dampening his own ego.) Echizen, of course, appealed to the freshmen. And Ryuzaki Sakuno's best friend was the self-styled "president" of Echizen's fan club. So of course she'd be hooked on Echizen.
Of course. But was Ryoma interested?
Tezuka began to watch the younger boy's interaction with Ryuzaki. He rarely even looked at her. Tezuka doubted that he even remembered who she was from conversation to conversation. That was Echizen, through and through. The boy was married to his tennis.
But then, Tezuka had been, too, before…
Before he had fallen in love with Ryuzaki Sakuno.
