I take you now to the land of Rohan where resides King Theoden and his son Theodred. With him also are his nephew and niece, Eomer and Eowyn. Eomer is 12, Eowyn 8, and Theodred 25. Here is how the rooms are set up, Theodred's is right in between Eomer's and Eowyn's. King Theoden put him there so that in case one of the younger ones had a nightmare and King Theoden was away or ill, Theodred would help them. Here is where our story begins.
Theodred awoke to a scream coming from Eowyn's room, he got dressed as fast as he could an ran to his cousin's room.
"Eowyn, what's wrong?" Theodred asked with concern.
"I had the most horrible dream." She answered very quietly.
"Oh, Eowyn." Theodred said while taking a seat next to his cousin and putting her on his lap and rocking her gently.
"What was your dream about."
"Theodred, it was about you. Uncle sent you on a mission to kill orcs and then you were ambushed and you killed a lot of them, but then one of them stabbed you in the back and when you turned around the sword was coming right towards your heart, and that's when i screamed."
She was crying when she finished telling her cousin her dream. She was afraid of losing her cousin, he has been their brother since they came to Edoras one year ago. He marches to battle with his father and she doesn't want him not to come back, she and her brother would be heartbroken if either her uncle or cousin would not return from battle.
"Eowyn, I would want to go in the heat of battle, you don't have to worry about me. I am a good fighter and I am a good rider."
"I still worry though, I want you to come back. Eomer and I would be heartbroken if you or uncle didn't return. You have been our big brother ever since we came here a year ago."
"Eowyn it's you and Eomer that i worry about when I'm gone, I worry what will happen to you if me or my father doesn't return."
"Well I still want to to return home."
"Okay i promise you this Eowyn, I will return and I will die in Edoras. Whether I am brought here or I ride here on my own."
"Thank you Theodred." She said while hugging her cousin.
"Now little sister, you need to get some sleep." Theodred told his cousin.
"Theodred will you stay and tell me a story?"
"Eowyn you need to sleep."
"Then will you just stay with me."
"Okay, good night Eowyn." He kissed her forehead and pulled up a chair and sat down. He stayed until she was fast asleep, then went to his room and went back to sleep.
