Being a Necromancer

Sundas, 2nd day of Last Seed, 3E 418

Day two and I'm already an apprentice. From what I understand, it usually takes longer to become a necromancer's apprentice, but somehow I made an exception. Does he see great potential or perhaps I have a natural talent of the art? Who knows. My first task is to summon a zombie. Easy enough.

Tirdas, 4th day of Last Seed 3E 418

My task was a success! It felt different than most magic though. It was like, part of your soul reaches through another plane of existence. Now I have my first undead thrall. I think I'll call him "Reek".

Turdas, 6th day of Last Seed 3E 418

My master said, "If you want to become a master necromancer, like me, you need to learn how to reanimate an undead corpse. Find one and bring it to me. Especiallyg a fresh one if you can. Don't get caught or I'll reanimate YOUR body and use it for my research." I must be sneaky for this task. One step closer to being a master.

Fredas, 7th day of Last Seed 3E 418

It was tough, but I brought master a body he wanted. The process or reanimation wasn't how I expected it to be. He showed me a a black soul gem. I've heard evil rumours about these gems, but they can't be all that bad right? So, he took the gem and put it in a pot which sat over a fire. He pulled it out, and cooled it till you can touch it without burning yourself, and he snapped it in half.

A black cloud and grey liquid oozed from it and absorbed into the corpse. The cloud made a noise which sounded like people whispering and screaming. When the grey stuff hit the body's arm, it sizzled and disappeared leaving no marks of any kind. I'm assuming that it absorbed into the body.

Loredas, 8th day of Last Seed 3E 418

After performing the ritual Master demonstrated yesterday, I tried it myself when he was away. It failed somehow. I performed the ritual just as I saw him do it, but it was on a decaying corpse. It just...disintegrated into a pile of ash. I fear that was the last soul gem because I can't seem to find another anywhere in the lair.

Morndas, 10th day of Last Seed 3E 418

Master arrived back from gods knows where and somehow figured out the reanimation ritual I had performed the otherday. He didn't seem angry, but satisfied. He said, "I've noticed you performed the ritual and failed. Good. Now you will bring me an empty grand soul gem." When I complete this task I hope I will start the learning of advanced techniques!

Morndas, 27th day of Last Seed 3E 418

I bought the grand soul gem Master wanted and he led me to an altar near some shrine of a daedric prince. Maybe I'll go and visit them someday. I was thinking when we passed by. It was midday as we were approaching the altar. There was a magnificent purple light that shined down from the heavens onto it. When we were standing next to the altar Master said, "Okay Lantrius, pay close attention. Only on certain days will you be able to create black soul gems. Every eight days from today will this light shine down and give the ability to create one of these. Place the grand soul gem inside, put your hand on the altar, and keep it there when you cast the soul trap spell I taught you."

When I did this, the purple light quickly disappeared and a dome of the light sat on the top of the altar. As I kept my hand on the altar, a vibrating hum started to develop. A surge of energy coursed through my veins and then the light dome expanded and disappeared. The altar glowed purple once and then it was normal. The light was back in the sky. Upon opening it, there was a black soul gem sitting there waiting to be taken and used.
