All right guys. Two in one day. I am really putting off what I should be doing but this came to me while I was having dinner tonight and I had to write it out. A brief look at the future.
Again I own nothing, just appreciate the characters.
It had taken a long time but the guys had finally taken Sheldon back to the North Pole. The sabotaged experiment was brought up at least once a year and they were tired of hearing about it.
It had been a situation similar to this when Penny realized how much she loved Leonard. Absence really did make the heart grow fonder. Now he was gone again, and like before she hated it just as much. However today they were going to be home.
Penny was walking the halls in Cal-Tech. She was walking the familiar route to his office. All she could think about was that he was coming home today.
She heard a voice in hall behind her. "Dr. Hofstadter?" Penny spun around looking for Leonard, he was early, and she didn't think he was going to be back until later.
Penny didn't see Leonard when the person speaking looked at her again and said.
"Dr. Hofstadter, Dr. Penny Hofstadter?"
"Oh, she exclaimed to the student, please call me Dr. Carlisle."
The student looked at her confused, with a questioning look.
"My husband, Leonard, is a Ph.D. researcher at this university as well. We decided shortly into our first year of marriage that it was much too difficult to walk around here and not know which of us people were trying to reference, so I took my maiden name for work," explained Penny.
"Oh," the young woman exclaimed, "I had some questions on your research into arctic weather systems"
"Sure email me your questions and I will schedule some time to go over your questions," said Penny.
"Thank you Dr. Carlisle," said the young woman excitedly as she hurried away.
Penny Hofstadter turned back around amused and continued her walk to his office. It was because of his gift of a snowflake that she discovered her love of meteorology, especially arctic weather patterns. Leonard had encouraged her as she started her college work and then quickly went onto get a Ph.D. Even though Sheldon still claimed her field was meaningless she was happy of what she had become.
Yes life had worked out really well for Penny or Dr. Carlisle or Mrs. Leonard Hofstadter. She liked all her names but two held special meaning too her, wife and mother. Yeah that was one reason the trip had been delayed until now. Their beautiful little Lily, Leonard had waited until he felt she was old enough before he went away for a few months.
Anyway nothing else mattered more than Leonard coming home today. Lily missed him and Penny didn't know how she had made it through the separation from the other half of her, but he would be home today.
Just before she reached his office, another voice rang out behind her. However this time she didn't need to question who it was addressed too, or who it was.
"Penny," cried out Leonard.
She had just enough time to turn to face him before she was crushed to his body by the strength of his embrace.
"Oh how I have missed you and Lily," Leonard murmured into her hair.
Penny smiled, as she drank him in, his beard scratching her, he smelled slightly as anyone who had been in the air that long could and he looked exhausted. It didn't matter though.
He was home!
