Summary: This is no Jack and Diane story. Futurefic about Mike/Sara's life 5 years post-break.

A/N: So, there's probably a lot of stuff in here that is wrong, or not realistic and I beg you to ignore them for the sake of the story. This is a one-parter, so..no updates! R&R svp!

Michael looked over at the woman sitting in the lawn chair next to him. The sun beat down on them both, but the breeze of the ocean proveded them with a constant cool. When he turned to look at her she had darted her head to face the water. He was uncomfortable catching Sara staring at the work of art that covered the upper half of his body. At the moment he was wearing only cotton pants, so his tatoo was completely revealed. Usually he didn't mind her looking at it but they had just gotten into a fight about the break.

Over the past 5 years since the break, the arguments about it had become less and less frequent. Now it seemed they only occurred around holidays when Sara especially missed her family. She understood perfectly well why contact with them was nearly impossible, after all she had made the choice between him and them already.

It was Thanksgiving although, for the two who were both Illinois natives, you wouldn't know it. The weather was hot and dry and the few leaves that they did see had remained green, not to mention they hadn't fallen to the ground. The two were equally far from home, residing in a remote Mexican village called 'Quesa Modid' Michael had to admit to getting his own bouts of homesickness, but what could he do? They had returned to Illinois (though not to Chicago) once 2 years ago and agreed that it was too much of a risk to those they were visiting to do it again - and the travelling was murder.

They weren't completely alone anyway. They had kept in semi-regular contact with Lincoln, Abruzzi, Sucre and Westmoreland. Sucre and Maricruz went to Thailand under Michael's suggestion, Westmoreland had taken his wife to live in Canada, Abruzzi went to Baha with his family and Lincoln lived a few roads over here in 'Quesa'.

T-Bag hadn't made it far out of prison. One month after the escape he was killed in Cincinatti. Michael didn't know the details, nor did he care to find out. T-Bag was never part of the plan, and none of the escapees lost sleep over his death.

Sara and Michael hadn't gotten married or have any kids because their kids would live forever as fugitives, it wasn't completely out of the question, but for now they weren't ready. Lincoln on the other hand had been cleared of his charges 18 months after the break, Veronica and her now-husband Nick had finally cracked the secret service. The government kept it quiet but at least he was cleared, even if he didn't show in court. After all, he had broken out of prison.

Anyway, Lincoln had married a sweet Mexican girl and they had three kids.

Quesa Modid was pretty much paradise for Michael and Sarah, it was like they were on a permanent holday. Michael had put all of his money into an emergency account under a different name before going to prison, plus he had gotten a huge chunk of change from Westmoreland. Abruzzi was an infallible conection, Sucre an honest friend and overall, Michael was satisfied with his life.

He might be a fugitive, but at least he was living well and enjoying his life.
