Detective Kate Beckett did not even have that much men in her life she realized, when she thought about it.
Katherine Beckett, the woman little innocent Katie grew into after her mother had been killed, however was a whole other story.
She'd lost track of the men she had had, of all the nights, she'd went out partying and clubbing with the sole purpose of getting drunk and laid. She had wanted to forget – forget the excruciating pain the loss of her mother brought up. And the only possible way she could think of to forget was to be out drinking, until she couldn't even remember her own name and then find some random guy, willing to have some meaningless sex with her.
They never were there in the mornings and she never saw one of them ever again. Meaningless.
And then out off the blue, one week after the abortion she still regretted today, Kate Beckett was born. It would be another few years until she'd make Detective but it had been the first big step in this (right) direction. She'd had relationships, meaningful ones, and stopped treating sex so carelessly. After her first real relationship ended after six months, she felt heartbroken – something she'd never felt for a guy in her life before. She had had a few boyfriends afterwards - never as serious as her first real love – but it weren't as many as one might think.
And then there was this one – only one – relationship worth mentioning when thinking about the men Kate Beckett had slept with, since she had been introduced to Richard Castle. And this man happened to be the one with whom she tried to get over the one man that started that train of thought in the first place.
