Within the darkened room sat two silhouettes, The candles casting eerie shadows on the cool stone walls. One figure was kneeling on the floor in front of the other. The standing figure raised his wand and a piercing scream ripped through the silence. As the screams died down, the figure on the ground spoke.
"My... my lord, please... Show mercy to the one who has served at your right hand for so long!"
The one speaking was a woman. Her voice wavered as she spoke, tears pooling at the corners of her eyes.
"I have showed you more than enough mercy over your failures... Madam Lestrange."
Her surname fell of his tongue like acid, stinging her already broken pride.
"Lord Voldemort will not tolerate such failures anymore! I have been more than tolerant with you Bellatrix! Crucio!"
The agonizing pain hit her with more intensity his previous curse. She felt like her skin was on fire, she knew she could bear the pain, but her reasons for enduring it had long since past. Her pride had been crushed and she had fallen out of favor with the one man who she worshiped above her own being. She felt her world going black, and for the first time, she welcomed it.
She was floating, the world was a white blur around her. She felt numb, and cold as she adjusted to her surroundings.
"Am I dead?" she thought "Have I fallen so far out of favor that he felt I was no longer of use alive?"
A familiar voice cut through the blur.
"Bellatrix... Bellatrix are you alright?"
The voice became louder as her world became black again. She began to become aware of her surroundings as the white faded. Bella slowly opened her eyes as the world focused itself. She was lying on something soft, possibly a bed. The face above hers became clear. It was her Lord, his face plastered with regret and worry.
"Are you ok?" he asked again.
"Yeah..." She replied weakly, "What happened?"
"You passed out, I never thought that the curse was that strong, you've never passed out because of that before..." he continued.
"You care that much?" she questioned, "I thought that you were displeased with me My Lord..."
"Bellatrix..."
His face said that he wanted to continue, but he seemed hesitant. Bella looked at him expectantly, but he soon replaced his show of emotion for his usual cool and nonchalant expression.
"Get out" he stated, "Now!"
Bellatrix was shocked, but grabbed the cloak that she had discarded earlier from the corner and left. As she was almost out the door she heard a ghost of a whisper from her Lord.
"You are my reason for being... Bellatrix"
That was all she needed to hear, and her faith in her Master had been restored once again.
