My eyes widened as Yuki-sama appeared on the scene. The scent of blood hit my nose before I saw her wipe the substance off of her cheek with the side of her hand. Despite her injury, she held her scythe without fail and her face was filled with determination.

"Ruka-san," her voice was stronger than I remember it being. "Kain-san."

"You got hurt," my own was filled with disbelief. "Why couldn't you just stay in your room and sleep?" Akatsuki put his arm out in front of me to keep me from moving towards her. I looked up at him with confusion. "Akatsuki...?"

"I'll stop her," his voice was unwavering. Even though I had my doubts he'd be able to put an end to her interference, I knew that he'd try his best.

"The answer's simple," Yuki-sama moved her arm back to her side. Her eyes closed and she looked completely serene. "I have to go back to him."

In that moment I came to her understand the princess a bit more. Her feelings for Kaname-sama made her feel like it was her duty to remain by his side no matter what he did. That's exactly how I felt when I thought there was even a chance for me to be with him.

It seems my thought process was quick since Akatsuki had started to quickly go towards her before I could blink. "Akatsuki, no!" My voice relayed the panic I felt. "You can't hurt her!" I reached my hand out and tried to grab onto his sleeve, but he was too quick. Yuki-sama made no attempt to stop herself from being trapped.

"I know," my childhood friend stood right in front of the young princess.

"I'll stay be his side, Ruka-san, so please," Yuki-sama shouted in my direction. "Follow your own path!" A soft gasp escaped my lips. "Please let me be by his side again." She sounded as though she were about to cry.

Before I had time to even think of a reply, there was the sound of stone being broken from above me. I quickly turned my head and my eyes widened as I saw Kaname-sama falling towards the ground with his hand around Kiryuu's neck. I heard slight struggling from where Akatsuki and Yuki-sama were, but my attention was solely on the two above me.

As the two got closer to the ground, I saw Kaname-sama draw back his sword. If it were possible, my eyes would've widened even more as I realized what he was planning on doing. My body seemed to act on its own accord as I rushed over to the spot where they'd land. Once they were close enough, I forced myself between them and my arms went towards Kiryuu in an attempt to push him further away from the one I blindly followed.

My eyes tightly shut and my body tensed as I felt the sharp edge of the blade sink into me. I barely noticed it be pulled out since the pain was excruciating. All I knew was that I was falling and a warm substance was escaping my body.

"Ruka!" I barely registered Akatsuki's panic filled cry as I hit the cold, unforgiving ground.
