Jack hadn't returned for a couple of days. We all decieded to go look for him, make sure he was okay. North was checking the North Pole. Tooth and Sandy checking Antartica. And I was here in Burgess, where it was nighttime. It was where Jack said he had become Jack Frost.
I finally found him in front of the statue of the founding family. I walked up to Jack, putting a paw on his shoulder. He didn't flinch or anything, just looked at me and smiled, then looked back to the statue.
"This is my family," he smiled. "My sister Pippa, my mother Mary, and my father Chris." My eyes widened as I looked at the boy on the statue: he looked exactly like Jack.
"My name was Jackson Michael Burgess," Jack slightly smiled. Then he sniffed and looked down with glazed eyes. "I was engaged, Bunny. My fiance was pregnant with my child. And I left her."
"It wasn't your fault, mate," Bunny tried to take everything in. Was Jack's family still around? Did he have any living descendents? "She was probably very proud of you for being so brave, saving your sister." He looked at Jack. "Did you ever see your child?"
Jack nodded. "A girl. My fiance named her Lacy, gave Lacy my last name. Never dated another guy or married, either. Lacy married a boy named Michael Jordanson, and they had a girl. That girl married a Michaels and had another girl. And girl after girl married with new names until they reached the name ..." His eyes lit up. "Bennett."
Bunny's eyes widened. "Have they always stayed in Burgess?" Jack slowly nodded, realization hitting him.
"Jack," Bunny confirmed. "Jamie's your descendent. So is Sophie. Their mother must be one of your great-something grandchildren."
"I have to tell him!" Jack said excitedly, zooming off. I smiled and opened up a tunnel to go find the others and tell them what happened.
Jamie was reading a book to Sophie when I popped in. Jamie was a pre-teen now, but both kids still believed in me.
"Jack!" they both said happily.
"I have news for you," I said, crossing my legs and plopping onto the bed across from them. "What do you know about your family history?"
Jamie thought for a moment. "Well, we're dated back to the Colonies." Jack smiled. "My great-something grandmother had been engaged when her fiance died. They were both 17 when it happened. Then she found out she was pregnant with his child. Then there was girl after girl and finally came my mother, who married my father and had Sophie and me. We've always stayed in Burgess in honor of that fiance."
"I know who that boy was," Jack's smiled widened. "The fiance that died."
"I do, too," Jamie chuckled. "Jackson Michael Burgess. He was the only son of the founding father of the town. He died saving his sister from drowning in a lake and ended up drowning himself."
"And then he became Jack Frost," Jack said casually, looking at his fingernails. He looked past his hand to see Sophie's and Jamie's shocked reactions.
"You're related to us!" Jamie tackled Jack in a big hug. "This is awesome!"
And for the rest of the night, Jack told Jamie and Sophie stories of his budding romance with his fiance and how his life came to and end and then began again.
