History Repeats Itself
[A/N at the end]
* Thank you to 2D and CP for the beta's on this piece *
The novelty of seeing Harry walk into his classes would never quite wear off. It was extremely ironic that he sat at the exact same seat that James used to, and Remus had to hide his smile when he caught him doodling on his pages during the drier parts of his lessons.
Remus had made it a point not to have favourites in his class, but he'd be lying if he said that Hermione and Harry were just his students. They were brilliant, each in their own way; they reminded him dearly of Lily and James. Although he doubted that the two would ever end up the same way. Somehow, he couldn't imagine the two friends ever finding themselves in a romantic relationship.
Still, it was interesting how there were parallels in life and how history sometimes repeated itself.
"Now, by Thursday I expect a one-page summary of Grindylows, their habitat, diet, and predators." A few of the students groaned and Lupin smiled as he flicked his wand and closed the shutters around the glass case. The Grindylow's growls muffled as the case closed.
Remus shuffled his papers and prepared his notes for the next class but noticed that Hermione was still packing her things with a frown on her face. He hated seeing his students in discomfort, and Lupin cleared his throat while he approached her slowly.
"Is everything alright, Miss Granger?" The young witch's brows furrowed even deeper as she slipped her bag onto her shoulder and looked at him.
"Well, Professor, I wanted to ask you if everything is alright," she muttered nervously. Her cheeks tainting pink as she fiddled with her bag straps. "It's just that – well – you look a bit sick." Remus' blood ran cold as she stared at him worriedly. He knew she was trying to discreetly look at his scars and he scratched his chin as she looked away. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked."
"I appreciate your concern Miss Granger, but I'm in perfect health." Her eyebrows furrowed again and she flashed a look at him, as if she thought that he really expected her to believe that. "Besides, I believe you have an Arithmancy class to get to." Hermione's eyebrows disappeared behind her bushy fringe and she touched her neck anxiously. He knew that she knew that he knew about her time turner. They stared at one another for a moment, each knowing something that the other was hiding, and Remus turned back to his desk and continued shuffling his papers. "Remember, one-page summary on Grindylows. Due on Thursday."
The girl nodded and rushed to the door, but paused. "Oh, and Professor Lupin, don't worry, I promise I won't tell." Her bushy brown hair disappeared behind the door, and Remus smiled and shook his head; there had been another girl who'd said the exact same thing to him. Except instead of bushy hair and brown eyes, she'd had green eyes and flaming red hair.
