*************
I've been a werewolf for about a year now. Seems like the longest year of my life. Only a few people actually know the truth, so I think I've done a good job keeping my secret during this time. Haven't I?
The full moon gleamed behind passing clouds. Tommy ran through the woods, completely wolfed out. He had planned on waiting out the lunar cycle at Merton's place, like always, but they had a history test the next day and Tommy had forgotten his notebook at his house. Now, he had to sneak into his house without someone spying him.
Ever so carefully, Tommy opened the back door that lead to the kitchen. Tiptoeing across the kitchen floor, he was almost in the hall by the stairs when a sound made him freeze in place.
"Hey, lit'l bro. Wanna grab me a soda while you're in there?"
How had Dean heard him? In his mind, Tommy started to panic. "Um...um..." Then, an idea hit him. "Yeah, hold on." Grabbing an oven mitt from a drawer, he pulled it over his paw and took a Coke from the fridge. Standing behind the corner and counting on Dean's never-failing habit of constantly keeping his eyes on the television, Tommy reached his disguised hand around and dropped the soda in his brother's lap. Then, he turned tail and ran upstairs to grab his book.
Heading back out, he was almost out the door when Dean spoke up again. "Hey, you might want to stay home tonight."
Tommy paused. "Why?"
"Mom did a report earlier about some crazy guys planning to set traps in the woods tonight. Something about the full moon and the Pleasantville werewolf. I wasn't really paying attention; Family Ties was on too. But they're doing a recap right now. These guys look pretty serious."
Standing out of Dean's line of sight, Tommy looked at the television just in time to see a hunter hold up an example of the traps they were setting. The thing looked big enough and sharp enough to snap his leg off. Tommy gulped.
"Might not be safe to head back to your pal's house," Dean continued, never taking his eyes from the screen. "Why don't you just pull up some couch and spend some quality time with your older bro? There's an all-night Buffy marathon on FX. The chronicles of Oz."
"Actually Dean, I'm getting kinda tired." Tommy made it a point to yawn loud enough for the older Dawkins to hear him. "I think I'll just go up to my room and get to sleep early."
"Okay, your loss, but don't let anyone say that I don't care about my bro-ski."
With that, Tommy took the kitchen way back to the stairs and went up to his room, intent on calling Merton to let him know about the change in plans.
Dean picked up the remote and changed the channel. "Poor lit'l bro," he said to himself aloud. "Doesn't even catch onto subtle hints." He stopped clicking when a late night showing of Teen Wolf filled the screen. "It's not even that hard to recognize him in the pictures when he has that letterman's jacket on."
