Why had he done this? Killed his little brother? Caused him pain and harm? He never meant to. He never meant to stab his baby brother. Everything just went wrong, he misjudged his movement, misjudged Gabriel's movement, he only meant to disarm him. Knock the weapon from his hands to prevent either of them getting hurt. Shame it didn't work out like that. People say before you die your life flashes before your eyes, so why was he experiencing it?
He could remember holding tiny Gabriel in his arms. Promising to protect him, to look after him and to raise him. Gabriel always said he wanted to be like his big brother, strong and brave. He could remember Gabriel's big caramel coloured eyes looking up at him with admiration. His big smile that seemed to be constantly plastered on his face. His squeals and laughs when his brother tickled him, or played games with him or gave him sweets or the time he took him to Earth for the first time. The fascination in his eyes as he saw all sorts of new things. The way he would get tired and cuddle up to his big brother and fall asleep still on his lap.
Lucifer loved these memories. He wished he's been able to have more, he loved his little brother so much. More than any of the other angels, so it broke his heart to see Gabriel before him now. In pain, tears in his eyes, gripping Lucifers shoulder as if it was going to keep him alive. Lucifer closed his eyes, unable to look at the mess he'd made, the remembered feeling Gabriel's grip loosen and his brother become heavy in his arms, opening his eyes once more only to see the golden light of his brother's eyes replaced with a lifeless looking light brown colour. He could remember placing his brother gently onto the floor and hugging him close to his chest, tears running down his face and soaking into Gabriel's hair. He'd never felt such regret and guilt in all his life, but in a way, he almost deserved it. Well he thought he did anyway. Gabriel certainly hadn't deserved to die the way he did.
