A/N - So, I'm in Salzburg, and this little idea formed in my mind as I walked across the bridge to Old Town yesterday for lunch. I put a picture on Twitter and Molly wanted ducks, so I mentioned ducks. Tensor & zhalen - good work (and good google research?) - you kind of got it. Here goes. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think! :)
"You ready to go?" Leonard asked, trying not to sound impatient, just as he had been for the past ten minutes. First it was make-up, then the wrong shoes, then she wanted to wear a hat so restyled her hair, and then the hat didn't work with her outfit anyway. She'd just gone in to tie her hair back up into it's original bun.
"Yeah, I'm done!" Penny picked up her handbag, and then quickly gasped as she took her first step towards the door. "Wait, one second, last thing, I promise!"
Leonard sighed as she ran back to the bedroom. He heard her hum to herself happily for a few seconds before she returned with a big grin on her face.
"Okay, I'm ready to go now," she took his hand and kissed his cheek.
They left their hotel and began to make their way towards Old Town Salzburg, weaving through various tourists and residents. Penny smiled the whole way there, despite how she had spent the whole morning complaining that she was hungry. Leonard shook his head slightly as she led the way to the bridge, tugging at his hand. They were halfway across when she suddenly stopped.
"Why are we stopping?" Leonard raised a brow.
"Because," Penny began going through her handbag.
When she didn't continue, Leonard frowned. "Because what? Did you leave your lipstick or something? I don't wanna go all the way back..."
"No, silly," Penny shook her head, looking up at him. "Look at the bridge."
"Okay..." Leonard shrugged. "What exactly am I supposed to be looking at? I don't really know anything about bridges. There are ducks in the water, you want duck for breakfast?"
"I meant the side bits of the bridge." Penny sighed, rolling her eyes. "And you know I don't like duck."
"Oh." Leonard looked down. "The padlocks?"
"Yeah."
"What about them?"
"Look at them!"
"Okay..." Leonard looked at her inquisitively, and then down at the padlocks. "Oh, they have peoples names on... aww, that's cute." He smiled to himself.
"Yup." Penny nodded, bending down, a large, heavy looking silver-colored padlock in her hands.
"Did you just carry that thing in your handbag?" Leonard asked in disbelief.
"Mm, yeah, my shoulder kinda hurts but it was worth it." Penny shrugged.
Leonard bent down next to her, eyebrows raised in slight surprise as she hooked the padlock through the links, eyes squinting slightly in the sun, and then locked it. She reached her hand up and chucked the key into the river, and then pulled a black Sharpie pen from her pocket, and began to write on the lock.

"That's so sweet." Leonard turned to look at her, smiling softly. He cupped her chin with his hand and turned her head towards him, before kissing her gently on the lips. "I love you."
"I love you too." Penny gave him a small smile in return. "And, you know, we don't have the key to unlock it so... it's kinda here forever."
Stunned, Leonard fought back the both cry and pounce on her right there. "Wow."
"Yeah." Penny nodded slowly, eyes still on his. "Who's the romance ninja now?"
