Chapter 1 It Can't Be True
Kendra had been asleep when the ringing of the phone woke her. She had just come off of a double shift at the hospital and was so tired she had come home and gone straight to bed.
Five minutes later she was speeding down the highway going 90 miles per hour. She didn't care that she was speeding, just let some cop try and stop her. She had to get there fast.
She parked the car and ran into the emergency room where she had worked all day. Looking around she saw Paul and Diana Collins. She ran over to them and hugged Diana as she stood up. Paul reached out and hugged her after she had turned loose of Diana. They all sat down.
Kendra: Have you heard anything yet?
Diana: No they haven't told us anything.
Paul: They said they would let us know as soon as they could.
Kendra: Has anyone called Roman?
Diana: Not yet we wanted to wait until we knew how bad it is.
Kendra: Let me see if they have an update yet.
She stood up and walked over to the triage desk that she had just left a few hours ago. The nurse who had replaced her was named Sally.
Kendra: Sally, has there been any news on Melanie Reigns?
Sally: No. The last I heard she was going for a CT scan. I think they are waiting until they get the results before they tell anyone anything.
Kendra: Just let us know if you hear anything.
Sally: Kendra, I know. As soon as I hear anything I will tell you, I promise.
Kendra: Thanks, I appreciate it.
Kendra turned back around and walked back over to Paul and Diana.
Kendra: They are running a CT scan and when they get any word they will let us know. I think we should call Roman.
Paul: Would you please…
Kendra: Of course I will.
Sally walks over and taps Kendra on the shoulder.
Sally: The doctor would like to speak with the family now. He is in treatment room 1.
Kendra: Thank you.
She and Paul help Diana to her feet and they all hold hands as they walk back to the room where Michelle is.
