Move On

Blood pooled steadily on the floor. He stared at it, unmoving. He couldn't believe it, wouldn't believe it. Her blood splattered over his face, over his arms, his chest, everywhere. He stared, his amber eyes wide as tears flowed freely from them.

He hadn't cried since his mother had died.

Her violet eyes stared at him, the life slowly draining. Her face was growing pale, paler than a skin tone should ever be. Tears fell from her eyes, each one creating a clear, smudgy path on her cheeks in the blood.

Finally, he moved. He lurched forward and caught her falling body in his arms. He landed on his knees painfully. He held her bleeding body close to his chest.

Her eyes were still staring and her breath came in short gasps. She was trying to say something, but no words would come out. Why did it have to end this way? She had so much she wanted to tell him….she wanted to kiss him, hold him, marry him….maybe have a family. She wanted Ichigo.

He stared at her paling face, her trembling hands as they reached up to touch his face. They were covered in blood. He couldn't believe it. He didn't want her to die, it wasn't her time….she should be living, healthy and free. With him. She was too young, they both were. And he didn't know if he could stand losing another important woman from his life. He wouldn't be able to take it.

He grasped her hand in his and pressed it against his cheek. She took shallow breaths.

"Rukia…." He moaned painfully, crying so hard it was almost impossible to breath.

She said nothing but tried to smile at him, and failed miserably.

"I-I…ch-chi…g-go…" She murmured, wanting to tell him before she had to leave. She could feel the life ebbing away from her body.

"Don't go…Rukia…don't leave me…." Ichigo cried.

"Ichig-go…. I….need y-you….t-t-to…promise….me….s-something," Every breath in between words was like a knife in his heart, but he listened anyways.

"Don't…st-stop your….life…..m-m-move…on….okay?" She huffed out. He gripped her even tighter then. He shook his head.

"I can't! I can't, Rukia! You're not going to die! Please! Don't make me promise –"

She brought her trembling hand to his lips, she caressed them with her fingertips. He looked painfully down at her, nothing but sorrow and sadness showed in his eyes. His eyebrows were pulled together so much that it must have hurt.

"No….promise me….Ichigo….move on….for…me…." She tried, but her voice only came out in a whisper. He hugged her close and nodded.

"Alright….I promise. Don't leave me, Rukia….please!" He wailed.

"Everything…..will…b-be….all…alright…..I…..love…you…" She whispered.

Then her hand fell from his face and landed limply on the seeping ground. Ichigo stared straight ahead before his head turned towards her silent face. He shook her. Once….twice….three times, but she didn't wake up.

"Rukia…."

He shook her again. Still, nothing.

"Rukia….." He pressed his lips to hers, not wanting it to be their last kiss. He grappled her face in his hands and continued to kiss her. Once he pulled away he looked at her, hopeful.

Nothing.

He cried even harder then.

"Rukia!" He shrieked so loud that more shinigamis had begun to appear. He held her close and rocked both his and her body. He cried.

She was dead. His only love….the only woman he truly cared about was gone. Forever.

How could she want him to move on? How could he ever move on?

But she wanted him to….so he would….even if it ended up killing him, too.
