"What is that mark on your neck, Mommy?" a four year old Maes Mustang asked his mother as she carried him to bed. He was pointing to the pinkish scar that sliced across her pale neck with a small, slightly chubby finger.

Riza set him in his bed, pulling the light blue blankets up to cover his small body. He looked up at her curiously with his dark black eyes, one thumb plunged into his mouth as he looked at her expectantly.

She sighed, lying down next to him in his bed. He was so much like his father, determined. Maes, once he had something on his mind, would not let it go no matter what.

"A long time ago, before you were born, Daddy and his friends were working together to defeat an evil man who wanted to take over the world," she began, and Maes snuggled next to her, laying his head on her chest. "This man needed five people to create an enormous power for himself, but he only had four at the time."

"But how'd you get that mark?" Maes asked drowsily, wanting her to get to the point before he fell asleep.

She chuckled, continuing, "So he wanted Daddy to perform some forbidden alchemy so that he could become the fifth person. When Daddy said no, well, they tried to hurt me to get Daddy to do it." She rubbed the scar in remembrance.

"Lieutenant, are you still with me? Answer me!" Mustang's voice called in a panic. He struggled against the arms that held him. The doctor looked between the two with anticipation.

"Now, perform the transmutation and become the fifth sacrifice," the doctor ordered, smiling toward Mustang.

"Did he do it?" Maes asked, his voice becoming quiet.

"Of course not. I told him not to, and he didn't," she said matter of factly.

"But what if you died, Mommy?" he murmured, his eyes slowly closing.

"I wouldn't let myself die so easily. I was under orders not to…" she trailed off when she realized that Maes had fallen asleep. He was breathing evenly and peacefully, and Riza smiled at his expression. He looked so much like his father.

She untangled her hair from his small hand, which he had grasped while she was talking, without waking him. She got up and tiptoed quietly to the door, closing it behind her.

Roy snuck up behind her, spinning her around and kissing her. They pulled apart, Roy's hand resting on her hips.

"You're home," she whispered. Roy had had an important meeting that was supposed to go late.

He smiled, reaching a hand to trail the scar that adorned her neck with his finger. He delicately dragged it along the length of the scar, causing a shiver to shoot down her spine.

"You know, battle scars are quite attractive," he said with a smirk, and she smacked him playfully.

"I'm going to bed," she said, turning on her heels and walking to their room. Roy followed behind her, chuckling quietly.

"Colonel, I'm sorry," Riza muttered, awakening in the Colonel's arms. He hugged her tightly as if by letting her go she would be lost to him forever.

"No, don't speak. Just rest," he ordered her.

"You understood my signal," she said. "I'm not sure how, but I'm glad."

"We've been together for long enough, and besides, I know that glare. It means use human transmutation, and I'll shoot you," he smirked, and Riza smiled weakly.

I've been on vacation and have been completely Royai deprived! So I made this because A) their child would be absolutely adorable! and B) because this is about one of my favorite episodes which gave me an excuse to watch it again! Episode 58 and 59, baby! Best. Royai. Moment. Ever!

So, hope you liked it! I want to do more one shots like this soon... but let me know what you think! I want to see if people actually like my oneshots or if they should just stay in my brain... yeahhhh...

So thank you to whoever reviews! XD
