"Han?" Leia asked. To her husband, her voice was distant, though she was in the bed next to him. She was staring at the ceiling, hands resting on her belly.
"Yes, Your Worship?" Han flashed her a smile, and she grinned slightly as she caught a peripheral glimpse of him. He had a feeling of what she was about to say. They had been over it before, but he knew this was all very new to her. He knew she still wasn't sure how things would turn out.
"What if… What if this baby… Our baby, isn't healthy?" Her hands glided up and down her round, protruding belly. "What if I'm not a good mother, or-"
"Princess…" Han interrupted. "This baby is going to be perfect. It's going to have your strength and compassion… And my good looks, of course," he joked. "It's going to be healthy, and happy, and love its mother with all of its heart." He kissed his wife gingerly on the cheek. "May I?" he asked her, gesturing towards her belly.
She grinned in response. He took that as his go-ahead, and leaned his mouth towards her pregnant stomach. "Hey, junior! Tell your mama it's gonna be alright, okay?"
Leia gasped as she felt a kick in her abdomen. Han looked up at her with a questioning look on his face. She nodded. "It kicked. Han, our baby… Our baby is moving! The doctor said-"
"I know what the doctor said, Leia. But you need to listen to what I said. This is my son we're talking about here. He's going to be healthy and happy," Han reassured her.
"Son? What makes you so sure it's a boy, you scoundrel? How am I supposed to trust you?" she mocked with a playful tone. "I think it's a little girl. A sweet, precious little girl, who's going to dress in all white like her mother."
"Oh yeah? Well my little boy is going to carry a blaster on his hip at all times, just like his old man. I'll teach him how to protect his mother," he grinned wide at the thought of a miniature version of him.
Leia flashed him a death-stare. "Alright, alright Your Worship… No blasters," Han started. "Until he's fourteen," he said after a long pause. He laughed at his wife's response. "I'm kidding, Your Highnessness!" he retorted to her glare.
Leia didn't know what she would do without the man lying next to her. Yes, he was a bit much to put up with at times, but he always came through when she needed him. He made her feel safe and loved. As she had stated many years before, he had his moments. Not many of them, but he did have them.
