The Shooting
I feel the pressure of Christina's hands pushing into my pregnant belly. I swallow a gasp of throw up back down my throat. I pull through the urge to turn and strangle her with my own bare hands. My voice shrieks out in echo but I can't hear it because my whole body has gone numb. Her hand grasps tightly over my mouth as she pulls me further backwards. A high pitched voice of relief enters me and goes right through me as I recognize the young red head, April. Derek swivels his head backwards, as the world shifts into a slow rotation. The gunman lifts his gun to chest height. His hand vibrates in shaky moments as he stares into Derek's ocean eyes. In a moment of sudden Derek has collapsed to the ground. My head starts to turn in circles as I can feel my face go pale as I burst through christina. She pulls me backwards as I watch my husband bleed out on the floor in front of the gunman. She turns me to look her in the eyes as heavy tears roll down my face. She pushes me fiercely back through the door of the supply closet. She tells me that I will die if I try to save him, she says I have to get through her first. As I lean back on the cart, I stare fiercely at my best friend as I reach for her. I throw her body weight behind me and run out in Derek's direction.
