The big burly man was sorting through the inventory of Fort Steadfast's weapons, ensuring that no weapons were in severe disrepair and were all accounted for by the glorious organized number crunching clerks.
He ran his hands down a spear that was leaning against the wall, and bending over to pick it up off the ground by the stump, he felt a sting on the palm of his hand.
Bringing his lamp around and turning his hand, he looked down in horror at the massive black blood sucking spider. It was almost the size of his hand!
He screamed. His scream bought a team of sentries from their post, as they had thought they'd heard a woman's scream.
