He stared down at her laying on the hospital bed. Her still form, her warm brown eyes closed, and her long blonde hair flowed freely down over her shoulders. She was breathing lightly, her heart beating slowly.

Riza Hawkeye, First Lieutenant, had risked her life to save her beloved Colonel, Roy Mustang. With his gloves wet, he was useless, and was about to receive a bullet to the chest. However she had jumped in front of him, taking the bullet in her own chest. Soon after, she was rushed to the hospital, but her life was on the line and time was running out.

The doctors had done all the could, but they couldn't heal her. They brought her into an empty room and let her spend her last few moments with Roy.

"Riza... Why did you do it? Why didn't you just let me die? I don't know if you can hear me, but if you can... Please know I always have, and always will love you." Roy said to Riza's unconscious form.

Roy had heard it, it was quiet, but without a doubt, he heard his hawk's eye whisper, "I love you too, Roy."

Her heart monitor, which had been beeping slowly, indicating her slowing heart rate, sped up a bit. It showed quicker and stronger beats. Roy saw a glimmer of hope.

'She's gonna make it!' Roy thought, getting excited.

But soon after the quicker beats, the beeping, and Riza's heart, stopped altogether.

Roy's brief moment of hope shattered. As he reached down to kiss her on the head, he felt his eyes start to sting. He took one last look at her, and walked out of the hospital and out into the rain.

The flame alchemist walked home in the rain. Normally, he hated the rain, but on that day he was thankful for it. It disguised the tears on his face as drops of precipitation.

When he arrived at his house, he went into his shed and pulled out his gun.

"Riza... I'll see you soon, my love." Roy whispered. He put the gun in his mouth, feeling one last tear drop roll down his cheek. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and pulled the trigger.
