"Clearly you don't know Chuck. He has a thing for the rooftops."
-Blair Waldorf (In the Relam of the Basses)
They were about nine, maybe younger. Blair didn't remember the facts. She remembers sitting at the table next to her Dad and Serena on the other side. Serena couldn't sit still. It had only been an hour and she had already had five glasses of water and managed to pull her hair out of its neat plait. But Blair sat silently with her arms folded. Serena leaned over and whispered a bit too loudly in Blair's ear. "Can we please go talk to Nate and Chuck?"
Blair didn't want to at all, but she knew Serena would go with or without her. So she grabbed her hand and they slid off their chairs carefully. Their Parents were far too engrossed in the speech Bart Bass was making then to look after their children. The Blonde and the Brunette silently walked around the backs of the tables and make their way to the Archibald's. Chuck and Nate looked as though the girls couldn't have come sooner. They didn't stay and talk. The four friends were up for much more of an adventure. Serena and Nate ran in front giggling and holding hands. The found a door that lead up some stairs. Before they knew it they could see the entire New York sky line from the rooftop. Serena's laugh filled the air and she ran around.
"That was so boring! I was going to fall asleep!" Nate said.
They just talked. All four of them like friends. They watched the tiny last rays of sunlight disappear then the millions of lights turn on around them. It was about half an hour later when Serena finished telling them all about the places she wanted to go after college.
"And I really want to go to Africa and Elephants too! Oh and go skiing in New Zealand. Then I will come back to New York."
Blair smiled because it was so like Serena to not think about working.
"Well after I Graduate from Yale I want to-"Blair Began.
"I am so hungry! Natie will you come with me to eat?" Serena said as she stood up and grabbed his hand leaving him no option. Her hair was a mess and her dress all wrinkled but Blair still felt threatened. Before she knew it she was stuck on a rooftop with Chuck Bass.
"You want a drink?" Chuck said putting a bottle in her face.
"No thank you." She replied politely.
"It's only water."
"You are Drunk."
He stood up and walked in a perfectly straight line and smirked back at her.
"Can drunken people walk in straight lines Miss. Waldorf?"
Angry Blair stood up and walked away from him but he caught up her. His hand wrapped around hers. This only put fuel in the fire.
"Don't leave me alone up here."
"Come with me then. It's getting late."
She could sense he wasnt going to leave just yet.
She didn't want to leave him, so she let go of his hand and sat back down on the seat. They just sat in silence. She listened to the cars and the people. He listened to her breathing.
"I really like Rooftops." He began.
"It's like you're on top of the world and everybody is looking up at you. But at the same time you can feel like you are the only person in the world looking down at everybody else all alone. Maybe it's because I can see everything and everything can see me."
"Kind of like your own movies were you are the star." Blair though aloud.
He turned and looked in her brown eyes and smiled, "Exactly."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Maybe because you know me. You should be flattered Blair because I never told anyone that before."
At that moment she smiled.
So about ten years later when she was running through Victrola with Jack confusingly following her she knew exactly where he was and why he was there. Maybe it was because she knew him well or maybe it was just fate.
