Unfeeling Fog

That blanket of unfeeling fog that surrounded him was like
a cool embrace, feathered lips living a trial of cold
down his cheeks where the tracks of tears
had left never-fading marks for him to nurse…

And yet it could hide all of those,
make him forget: forget the hollowness in his cheeks,
his still crying heart who's just run out of tears
to shed; the crying would be endless otherwise:
that lonely song forever sung…

But the fog was like a cotton wool
stifling it all
and when it lifted for a breath of air
he sought a way to go
under it again.
