(To the tune of "Just Breathe" by Anna Nalick)
The silence between them is not awkward, but sad
As he tells her all of the worries he's had
And the reason why he can not love her
And with tears in her green eyes and red hair in her face
She tells him that he is making his biggest mistake
She will stay safe, but right now he's breaking her heart
But he tells her he knows she's in danger because of him
And that he knows there's no way good can always win
And he tells her he's sorry, even though he wants her
So he leaves behind the glory, the fame and the girl
And she doesn't know she's why he saves the whole world
But it's a sacrifice that he knew he had to make
And when he puts on his mask there are tears in her eyes
Because she can't help herself but fantasize
About a hero who actually had time to love her
So he goes off to fight for the city he loves
Hoping someone's watching over him from above
And also hopes that he will see her again
And punches are thrown and blows are exchanged
As he realizes that this is no longer a sick game
He could be killed tonight, without telling her everything
And he screams and he fights for his life
For the first time he thinks he's going die
And he regrets not telling her everything
But he returns when it is still night
And he's just happy that he is alive
And he goes to her house and tells her everything
He tells her he's filled with guilt and self-doubt
And he's trapped in this world and he screams, "Let me out!"
But he remembers and then he does it all for her
And she begs him to rethink the life he has picked
That not being able to love him is making herself sick
And he holds her and looks her in the eyes
He tells her "I love you, and that's why we can't be
Because they'll hurt you as they try to get to me
But I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you."
And then she starts to cry as her dreams spiral and crash
And she tells him that his decision is rash
"We can do this, but you just have to believe it."
So he pulls off his mask and kisses her so
And then he puts it back on and tells her he has to go
And she watches from her window as he swings away
In this life we make choices and we have to sacrifice
And he learned that with the hardest lesson of his whole life
But he loves her, and it is supposed to be that simple.
