A/N: Quotes from the third manga. YYH is definitely not mine.
In the beginning I was unsure about him. He was different from the rest. Oddly, I felt they were more open than he. Hiei was such a mystery that he almost became no mystery. Yusuke was utterly predictable in his heroism; Kuwabara even more so.
"He's a criminal. It's got to be a trick."
Was there ever a time when he truly let his guard down, let his defenses fall? If you had asked in the beginning I would have answered that he had shown us a weakness in his mother.
It was ages later that I realized he had not confided in us at all, during the Dark Tournament. A low level demon had found out about his fatal affection...was there really any way that I could call something he wasn't hiding revealed to me at all?
"...The mirror will then grant that desire, if something is offered in return, though we don't know what that is. I'll bet that's what Kurama aims to find out in the next three days!"
Was there ever a time when we actually saw him? So serious, with a face so young, and yet as silly as any of them at times. In the beginning I would have answered: that's just all there is to him, that's who he is. He is defiantly more than that, however. His transformation to youko frightened me. I barely made the connection between the boy and the fox.
"Why did he come to me, then? I'm in no shape to stop him."
I did not trust his loyalty. He was always so loyal, so perfectly willing to sacrifice some of his health for the gain of the team. Ironically, the thief was an accepted part of the team, while I, who had been working for Lord Koenma many years, received the glory of being a cheerleader.
"Ah...good question."
No matter how much I am around him, I still feel like I don't know him.
"Talking to him, I got the feeling that...He's not all that evil."
I wonder about him to this day.
