A/N: This is just a little something I've dug up recently. Tell me what you think, I'd love to hear an opinion.

Raven rubbed her temples despairingly. Her body was tense, as though waiting for something. The Titans were planning on going to a nightclub, and Raven had rushed to her room, not wanting to be invited. Each time it was harder to say no.

She gripped the pen in her hand, so hard her knuckles turned white. Raven stared vacantly at the blank piece of paper in front of her. She knew what she needed to do; she had done it several times before. Face set grimly, she began to scribble on it.

Expectations

They point, they grin they stare,

They stare hard,

They are not satisfied,

They have not been exceeded.

Raven tensed again as she heard footsteps coming towards her room. The metal thud of steel-toed boots was unmistakable. Why did it have to be him? Her heart was filled with an overwhelming sadness. It was always ten times harder when it was him.

I grit my teeth in frustration,

Face contorted with pain,

Eyes swollen from tears,

Of regret.

"Raven? We going to leave now, are you sure you don't want to come? I know you would have said if you wanted to, but I was just making sure…"

Robin's hopeful voice trailed off, leaving a dead silence in it's wake. Raven responded, struggling to keep her voice from cracking with emotion. "No, thank you. I'm fine Robin. I don't feel like going anywhere. I'll just stay here."

I hesitate,

I risk exposure,

I wish,

It had never come to this.

"Dude, c'mon lets go! It's getting late and the night is young!" Beast Boy's voice resonated in the hall.

"C'mon, I'll race you to the T-Car!" piped up Terra, and the subsequent sounds of footfalls and laughter echoed and slowly died away.

"Raven, are you sure?" Robin's voice was slightly impatient now, even a bit angered. "It'll be good for you. You can't stay in your room forever, you know. We're supposed to be a team." Raven shook her head sadly. "You don't know what your asking of me."

"Robin, please, let us be off, it is most amusing to see Earthlings move about to pounding music and blinding lights! We will be late. I am sure Raven cannot be convinced to join us." Their was no attempt to hide the contempt with which these words were issued. A distinct honking came from somewhere in Titans Tower, Cyborg signaling them to hurry up.

An annoyed sigh could be heard outside the door, and as the footsteps echoed away, Raven could hear a low voice say, "Sheesh, I just wish she could act normal sometimes, like the rest of us."

Raven felt her heart break. She couldn't hold it back any longer. A torrent of tears broke forth, and silent sobs shook her being. She held her head in her hands. The pain was terrible. What did they want from her? Why couldn't they accept her for who she was?

After what seemed like an eternity of silent suffering, Raven, composed once more, picked up her pen one last time.

There is no escape,

No where to hide,

Isolation is a sweet dream,

After this relentless persecution,

Of expectations.

A/N: Well, there you go. I was rifling through some poetry of mine, and I thought it might be interesting to adapt this piece to a one-shot. I'm no Edgar Allan Poe, but reviews are welcome anyway, pretty please? (shows puppy eyes) hehehe…
