Disclaimer and author's note: For those who had been following my previous story, you may wonder why I choose to delete it instead of just rewriting the chapters and update that way. Obviously, you guessed I was not satisfied. But I also felt a fresh start was actually needed. And it seemed easier that way. I admit, I am annoying. Please forgive me! That said, Naruto doesn't belong to me it belongs to what's his name again? Oh yeah Kishimoto. Well onto this story. Have a good reading. Reviews are love since they help us improve or not. But you get what I mean.
Galway, Ireland 10th October 2002.
At almost sixteen, Siobhan Whitlock considered herself to be rather plain and average. There wasn't anything remotely special about her. She was not stupid nor ugly. She had actually delicate features. At Junior High School she was not popular, but she wasn't an outcast either. She had three, maybe four friends. But that suited her well. Like every teenage girl her age she had problems about boys, school and basically social life. She struggled with puberty like every teenage girl.
So all in all, she was indeed an average girl.
She had no particular goal in life. If not to live said life simply and quietly. A good job. A nice husband. Two kids. Maybe a dog or a cat. A house with a white fence.
She had it all planned out. She had always, naively, thought that since she wasn't different in any shape or form, then nothing remotely special should it be good or bad could ever happened to her.
How wrong she was!
"I'm deeply sorry, Mister Whitlock." The oncologist, her father had consulted a few weeks ago after she had broken her leg for the third time in a year, said looking sadly at her. "Siobhan seems to suffer from a severe case of Ewing's Sarcoma… I'm afraid..."
She tuned the blonde doctor out. Sarcoma. She knew what that meant: bone cancer or something like that. Breath became difficult as she realized the implications of what the doctor had just said. She had cancer.
She could vaguely hear her father and the doctor discussed the possibilities. She didn't need to listen. She knew what that meant: chemo. Doctor Fitzpatrick had said it was severe, which meant, even then, her chances of recovering were unlikely. She was going to die. She had cancer and she was going to die!
Without a word she raised from her chair and left the office, ignoring her father's pleas. She needed to get out.
It had been a week ago. For seven days she had gotten up to go to school as if nothing was wrong. Simply going through the motion. Until today. Today was different. Today was the day she was going to die.
Upon serving breakfast, her father had casually tried to place the forbidden word: Chemotherapy. Not that he knew that of course. She should have expected it. It was understandable after all. He didn't want to lose his only daughter. He would hold onto the smallest hope.
Except that for whatever reason she couldn't fathom it had pissed her off. She had always been rather compliant with him. After all he was her daddy and knew what was best for her. And she hated conflict.
But the fact he dared utter this word… It pissed her off and a huge fight had resulted between father and daughter.
He had not even asked for her opinion. It was her body after all. She that would get sick to the point she would probably wish to die and then die. It was unfair! She knew he loved her. But she couldn't accept him making that decision.
She was going to make her own choices from now on. And she had told him as much before storming out of her house.
It may have seemed petty and selfish. Committing suicide because she disagreed with her father. Talk about stupid teenage rebellion.
Well it was too late to worry about that now. The blast of her father's Beretta had blown up half her skull. She was dead before she hit the floor.
It seemed though that fate had something else in store for her. Because not even ten second after she had pulled the trigger, she found herself floating above an infant. A rather cute little girl with spiky red and blonde hair. The infant laid on a bed, a beautiful woman with long red and straight hair holding her.
"Don't be scared, Kaoru" The woman said smiling. "Your daddy will bring Naruto back to us. He'll make everything alright again."
Siobhan realized then, the little girl wasn't moving. Stillborn? She gasped.
"Who are you?" The woman asked, pulling herself up.
"You... You can see me?" Siobhan asked shocked.
The woman, following the direction of her gaze, lowered her head to look at her daughter. Fear and horror appeared on her beautiful features.
"No… Please no!" She begged slightly shaking the still new born. She screamed.
If Siobhan had still been alive herself, she was sure she would have bled from the ears.
Weird shining chains came out of the young woman's body at a dizzying speed and struck at her violently. Or rather through her, as she had more of an esoteric form than a real body. The next second, she felt herself being dragged toward the bed the woman and infant occupied. Then it was as if she was sucked inside the little baby girl's body and darkness consumed her.
Fear. Pain. Anguish. Despair. Death. She could feel it on the tip of her tongue. It surrounded her, penetrated her, overwhelmed her, suffocated her.
Everything felt wrong and polluted. Evil and frightening. Dangerous and malevolent.
Something warm fell upon her cheek. It smelled salty. Blood.
She slammed her eyes opened.
How much time had passed since she had somehow possessed the infant girl, she had no idea. But she didn't think much time had passed, although the scenery was different. She was now lying on some sort of stone altar in the middle of nowhere.
She was not alone. Another newborn, a boy who looked like her, except his hair was entirely blonde, lay at her side.
The woman from before was there too. She was standing above both of them, talking, though she could not discern her words, and crying. The woman coughed painfully and blood came out of her mouth. She was in agony.
There was also a tall man behind her with blonde hair, the same as the little boy, and handsome features.
Siobhan noticed, then, the huge claw piercing the couple through and through.
"Naruto, Kaoru what I have to say is the same as your nagging mother."
Konohagakure 12th August 2005
Almost three years had passed, since she had been reincarnated as the loudest and most obnoxious shinobi's twin sister. Her name now as she had learned the day of her birth was Kaoru. She loved her name. That was probably the only thing. She loved Naruto too. But she hated this place and this world. She hated her almost three years old weak body. Although, had it not been already previously weakened by her cancer? But at least she was in good health now. Mostly.
But getting reacquainted to a smaller body took time. She had the advantage though, to have been through that once. So learning to walk, speak had been a walk in the park.
She had naively thought her previous knowledge of this world and in general would make her some kind of prodigy. She was wrong. Granted she had retained her mind which definitely helped.
But she had not found out how to manipulate chakra from the crib. Had not been able to wield instantly any weapon.
That was unfair.
Although, she admitted, it was kind of ironic, as a pacifist, she was now expected to wield deadly weapons.
She was, maybe a coward would be too much, but she always avoided conflict. And she was the kind to shout and curled up, arms raised above her head when someone threw the ball at her in gym class.
But that wasn't why she hated this place. And she didn't hate it per se. Just its people. And the abuse she and Naruto had to suffered at their hands.
At the orphanage, for example, they had been separated from the others kids from the start. And given a storage box as their room.
They were not allowed any visitors. Nor were they allowed to leave their "room" and corrupt the other children.
Not that they had obeyed of course. As soon as they had been old enough to properly walk, they had tried to explore the orphanage. The matron, had retaliated by putting locks in their door.
She had done worse. The matron, her name was Madam Kaioh, was a cruel woman. Cruel beyond any word.
Each morning, she would storm in the room to wake the "fox brat" and his freak of a sister as she liked to say. And just tied them to chairs before leaving again. She would not come back before the sun set. If she came back. Sometimes she didn't. She never changed their diapers, or bath them. And she never feed them properly. She would just bring them leftovers if they were lucky.
Mostly she fed them dog's food. It was both disgusting and humiliating. She would stay for that. It was the only moment she voluntarily spent time with them. She would stay and smile... Cruelly.
She had copped. As much as she could. Only thanks to her brother. He was always so cheerful. Well, sometimes he was sad or angry, but he never ceased to cheer her up and bring her hope. He was her savior, her sun and rock all roll in one. She both envied and admired him.
But today had been the last straw. She had been so far as to try and feed them feces.
Kaoru had screamed and throw the plate at that horrible hag with surprising accuracy. A rage like she never known had taken hold of her. She had leap at the woman, freeing herself from her bounds without realizing it, with the clear intent to kill her.
She had been stop by an Anbu who had been alerted by her screams and killer intent.
Later that night when the entire orphanage was asleep, she had taken Naruto and run away with him.
Konohagakure, 25th March 2006.
Kaoru looked at their makeshift shelter and smiled in satisfaction. She was really proud of her handy work. They had found an old carriage used to transport goods and a tarpaulin. It was a little damaged in some place but still waterproofed.
She had built a kind of caravan. With some ropes and a crank pulley, she had made a system allowing them to move up or down their caravan. Naruto had contributed by making two pads and two pillows by stuffing leaves in some burlap bags he had found earlier.
He had loved her idea of a tree house. His Aneki was awesome, dattebayo!
It wasn't ideal of course but it was definitely better than their previous predicament.
After running away from the orphanage, they had ended up in the streets. Sleeping and digging in the garbage. They had been forced to steal from early on, so they wouldn't starve.
Until they were chased away. They had found some woods in the northern part of Konohagakure. But the wild life scared them, and they couldn't sleep properly. So she had proposed the idea to leave in a tree. That way, if they hanged their shelter they would be protected.
Naruto had also stolen two small trunks he had pinned to the floor of the shelter, so they could put their stuff in them.
So now they had a shelter where they could sleep peacefully. Food wouldn't be a problem either. Hunting was forbidden or at least they were some restrictions. But they could fish at their leisure. And thanks to the books she had stolen, she now knew what was edible and what wasn't. Which plants were poisonous, which healed.
Life was nice she decided.
Konohagakure, 1st November 2007
Today was there first day at school, or rather at the Academy. Naruto was excited of course, ever since he had met the Sandaime almost a year ago and decided, there and then, he was going to become the greatest Hokage, Konoha had ever known.
He had been awake since dawn bouncing up and down. He was going to be an awesome ninja and make friends. She wasn't so optimist.
They had lived as nomads for about eight months, before someone had warned the Hokage about those poor orphans. Kaoru suspected it was Ayame-chan. Naruto had met Teuchi-san and his daughter who had instantly taken a liking to them. Naruto had then proudly and candidly talk about their tree house. And how his Aneki was awesome. Father and daughter had looked at them with horror.
About two weeks later. She had come back to their "place" to find none other than Sarutobi Hiruzen eating some fish, Naruto had fire toasted, with her brother. He had explained what and who he was to the boy.
To her, he had said he was impressed of how ingenious she was. And congratulated her on taking care of her brother.
He also had the nerve to lecture her. Since she was apparently the responsible one. Stating she should have alerted him or someone else about their predicament. And how they should never had left the orphanage.
It had pissed her off. How dare he?
"Warned you? It's been a year now. A year since I removed Naruto and myself from that hellhole. You had more than one occasion to make your presence known to us after you dumped us there. Do you have the slightest idea what we went through? I did what was necessary to care for the both of us. We survived and it's not thanks to you. And now you think you can just butt in and act all high and mighty and tell me I'm at fault. Well screw you old man!"
He had asked about their life at the orphanage, then.
"I won't talk about it. I've put that past behind me. Suffice to say, it was horrible. But Naruto and I, we're fine now. And well maybe not happy but, we're getting there. Don't act guilty now because someone forced you to acknowledge us."
A week later, they had moved in their new flat. It was small and run-down. There was only a room with a tiny kitchen area in a corner. And a small bathroom whose walls were musty due to humidity.
On the plus side, they had a huge balcony where they could grow plants. And a fireplace which she had transformed into a wooden stove. She had just fixed a heat-resistant hob halfway up. And voila!
They also had a monthly stipend. Since they already knew how to procure themselves free food, they had decided it would be useless to try and buy some, since they would certainly be kicked out of any place they stepped in. And since they didn't have to pay rent either, they were free to use their money as they wanted. Which had served to renovate their place. Starting with the bathroom, which required the biggest clean-up. She had first put a makeshift air dryer. To remove the moisture in there. Once that was done, she had tiled the walls of the shower area and put a large square basin on the floor. And a smaller one placed on a cabinet to replace the older and broken one. Thankfully the toilet had not been in need of any repair.
The main room had now blue cobalt and taupe wallpapers, and a new floor. Two closets fixed above the sink and a table with two chairs completed the kitchen area on the left of the fireplace. And the right, was the living room; which consisted of two armchair made from large keg and a tree stump recycled into a coffee table. She had also built two bedroom-cupboards - The large piece of furniture had a linen closet and shelves on either side, so they could hang and store their clothes and stuff, with their retractable bed in the center; the closed doors concealed the whole thing.
Things were finally looking up. Mostly. As said before, today was their first day at the Academy.
She was scared. Scared she would not fit in. Scared she would get hurt.
Konohagakure 3rd July 2009.
Last night, Naruto had come back to their flat looking completely dejected. It had broken her heart to see the usually exuberant boy look that way. Upon investigation, she had learned of his encounter with one of their Academy's Sensei, Iruka and the way he had talked and looked at him with loath.
In the morning, after ensuring Naruto was deeply sleeping, she had stormed out of their flat in search of the scarred chuunin.
She had found him in sitting in a bench with none other than Hatake Kakashi. His superior seemed to be trying to cheer him up.
She didn't care. Anger flaring up her senses she had bounced on the man fully intending to break a few bones.
"YOU HAD NO RIGHT!"
Kakashi had intervened of course.
"Maa! Let's not act rashly. That's no way to behave."
She had barely glanced at him. But she had definitely felt the killer instinct thrown in her direction. She had dismissed him. He was but a nuisance to her. He had looked rather impressed.
Iruka had tried opened his mouth, but she had stopped him with a harsh:
"Shut up! You don't get to speak!"
The man looked depressed. Part of him obviously regretted his actions, but she didn't care. He still tried to argue, though.
"For years now, we've had to deal with abuse and Konoha as a whole basically ostracized us for something we have NO control over. And I never said anything. But I drew the line here! I won't let his teacher, the man he looks up to, treat him like trash. Naruto isn't here for you to use as a scapegoat! He isn't the reason your parents died! They are! They chose this life and the risk that comes with it!"
"And since you can't bother to see pass the fox, let me remind you that right now, Naruto is the only thing between you and a monster that just itches to rip you to pieces! You should be thanking him on your knees. You may have lost your parents, but at least your father didn't fuck up your life!"
He had looked up at her in shock. So had Kakashi who had stayed silent until now.
"You know?"
"Yeah! Yeah I know. It wasn't hard to guess what with everyone calling him demon fox brat. Besides, it's not like I wasn't there that day."
Both men had looked horrified at her implications.
She turned to look back at Iruka, tears on her cheeks.
"He needs help! Help I can't give him. I… I don't know how."
He had followed her home, then, to try and apologize to Naruto.
But the boy was nowhere to be found.
Konohagakure, 4th July 2009
Kaoru stormed in her classroom, looking frantically around the place. She had been looking for Naruto all day and night to no avail.
"Kaoru?" Iruka asked. "What..."
"Naruto didn't come back last night!" She cut him.
It was at that moment, Shikamaru revealed Naruto had been tricked by some kid named Hibachi and had gone to the hills. Where, there had been rumors of enemy shinobi being spotted there.
"Today you'll be having self study." Iruka ordered before leaving the class in a hurry.
Kaoru had insulted and punched the annoying and stupid brat before racing after her teacher.
Now she knew where to look finding him would be easy. She knew the hills like the back of her hand.
So she had reached him before Iruka. But not before those three kunoichi.
Hiding in a bush, she listened her brother argue with the grown up women over a kunai, before the one in the middle attacked him.
Kaoru leapt out of her hiding place and knocked Naruto out of her sword. Taking his hand, she run, dragging him behind her. They managed to slow down their assailants thanks to the hunting traps. But they were running so fast they had not time to alter their course and fall off a cliff.
The fall knocked both out and they were disoriented. Seconds later the Kunoichi had found them. With great difficulty, Kaoru carried her brother on her back and fled. Leaping trees from trees. She managed to fend one of them off with the kunai. But she couldn't avoid the myriad of shuriken. Nor could she avoid their katon jutsu.
Pain engulfed her and she blacked out.
Konohagakure, 5th July 2009
She woke up confused and disoriented. She was lying on a firm bed. And the walls were pristine. She was in the hospital. She had no memories of what had happened after she had been knocked out by the three Kunoichi. Where was Naruto? Was he alright?
She could hear people talking near her. But she couldn't discern their faces. Her vision blurred.
"It is done, Hokage-Sama." A man said. "She will have no recollection of yesterday's event."
"What of the boy?"
There was a rustle, like someone was shaking their heads.
"I see. Do you know how she survived?"
"The Uzumaki kids used the Kyubi's chakra to revived her. I cannot explain how he did it. She holds the fox now."
The men exited the room, leaving Kaoru. "She holds the fox now." Somehow, someway, Naruto had saved her life and made her a Jinchuriki. But she knew a Jinchuriki could not live without their tenant. Which could only mean one thing: Naruto was dead.
Last update 17th february 2019: I corrected a few mistakes, the ones I could see at least. If you notice more don't hesitate to tell me. I also change some elements in the first parts, like her age for example. And the description of the flat has been redone too.
Question: Those seem to be pretty popular and as I am totally unoriginal hahaha. If you had to be reincarnated in a character from the opposite gender who would you choose?
See you soon!
