Kiss.
For Dalton West & Madeline Crawford, it was just a normal Spring's day.
Mattie was in her mother's kitchen, washing the ware from lunch. Dalton was on his way, his mother in the drivers seat.
"I don't see what the hell you see in that girl, Dal. I mean, you know why you're grounded? Her." she growled, her eyes still locked on the road.
Dalton rolled his eyes and smirked. "You still don't get it, do you?" he sighed, knowing exactly where this conversation was about to go, "I love her."
"You don't even know what love is!" her eyes were now switching from her son, to the road.
"Yeah?" he smirked, "well, I sure do know what it isn't."
"What's that suppose to mean?"
"Well, look at you and dad … or all the others." he waited for a response. Smiling slightly, he knew he'd won that argument.
-----
They pulled into the Crawford's drive about five minutes later.
"I'll pick you up in two hours. No more, no less. Got it?"
"Yes, ma'am."
He exited the car swiftly, his mom left.
-----
Madeline watched out the window, a smile plastered to her face.
He knocked once, and Molly ran to answer the door.
"Dal!" she chirped. He wrapped his arms around her small waist, and kissed her gently, before releasing her, leaving both of them, smiling.
"It's such a nice day, I'd say a walk would be great." Mattie suggested. Dalton nodded in agreement, before standing up, and offering his hand to her. She took it, and he pulled her up.
----
The warm sun shone brightly against their bodies, making the orange tints in the couples eyes gleam.
Madeline breathed in the cool scents of the Springtime air. Dalton glanced over at the small girl at his side, and smiled. She caught it, and blushed.
"You're blushing." he pointed out with a smile.
Mattie looked away. "Am not." a small smile could be seen on her face.
"Mattie," she immediately looked to him. "Why do you hide your beautiful smile from me?"
"…" she bit her lip, "I hate my smile."
"…Why?"
"Braces."
"Babe."
"What?"
Dalton smiled. "You look beautiful with them."
"No I don't. And my skin…it's not flawless." she protested, looking away.
He pulled her chin over gently with his thumb and index finger.
"Yes, you do, and nor do I, I mean, I look at myself everday in the mirror and have the urge to punch it."
Her brow furrowed, but she huffed a small laugh. "You're perfect the way you are."
"And, baby," he paused, looking into her eyes. "you're the best thing that ever happened to me. I know I messed up in the past …but I promise I will never hurt you again."
She nodded, wanting nothing more than to trust him.
She really did. For once in her life, she fully trusted someone.
He leaned down, and their lips connected. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and he placed his hands gently on her waist.
There, in the middle of the street, they shared a kiss so passionate and meaningful, not even the Gods could break.
