"Snowflakes are kisses from heaven."
Once again, it's winter; my favorite season and so is Master's favorite time of the year. I watched the snowflakes fall down from the wintery skies from the window and noticed the beauty carved on its fragile container as it fell down to the windowsill. I often wonder why each snowflakes have different patterns; suggesting that one snowflake is unique than the other.
The household seems to be silent as most of the Yokai are asleep while others are making themselves warm in the fireplace where Wakana-san is telling them stories on how Master loves the winter season.
I wanted to sit with them and listen to Wakana-san's stories about Master but the cold wintery breeze seems to be calling for me. I walked out from the house and turned my head and face the wintery skies. Snowflakes landed on my cheeks and it felt like they were kissing my face with soft tender kisses. I smiled at the thought and closed my eyes to feel one with the snow.
It was a matter of moments when I opened my eyes when I could not feel the snowflakes touch on my skin anymore. I turned my head to my side and saw Master holding an umbrella above my head. He was also gazing above the skies, his free hand catching fallen snowflakes.
"Master?"
Master turned to look at me, "You'll catch a cold." He said with a smile.
I smiled back at him and walked out of the umbrella's protection and turned to face him, my hands outstretched before me, touching the snowflakes on my open palms. "You seem to be forgetting why I am called Yuki-onna." I told him, marveled by the beauty of each snowflake. "I cannot catch a cold by staying too long under the snow. I am Yuki-onna and winter and I… we are one!" I added, walking closer to where Master stood. He was at that time in his Yokai form.
Master watched me as I grab the umbrella from his hand and closed it. I took his other hand and we both walked in the garden covered with the thick blanket of white snow, both of our eyes amazed by the beauty of the snowy pavement. His hand cold against mine.
When we finally reached the front porch, I immediately released his hand with mine and we both sat on the wooden porch, our heads tilted towards the skies.
We were silent for a while before Master spoke again. I turned to look at him and saw that his head is still tilted towards the skies. I watched his face as snowflakes fell upon them.
"I love watching everything turn white before me when winter starts. It seems to calm me and I far too enjoy watching snow fall down from the skies and unto my palms," he turned to face me and I felt my cheeks heat up upon the sight of his face. "Winter does suit you, Yuki-onna. Seeing you together with the snowflakes seems to bring happiness on my face. And even if winter is gone, just being with you reminds me that winter is still within me." he added with a smile.
My cheeks begin to flush and I couldn't help myself but to smile brightly. I moved closer to where he sat and with no second thoughts and hesitations, I leaned my head on his shoulder. I ignored the little mumbles of the lower-yokai peeping behind us. And even smile at the thought of Kana's jealous face if she caught us together, my head on Master's shoulder.
As long as Winter is around and as long as my Master is beside me… the cold and the silence that the season always bring will be nothing compared to what I am feeling right now.
I smiled and I know Winter is smiling along with me.
After all… we are One.
