"What's it going to be, eh?"
Five men towered over the trembling girl. The one who was now asking the question had slapped her across the face. She fell, cutting her forehead on the asphalt. She had trouble seeing through the rain, the blood and the blinding pain. She started to cry as she made a feeble attempt to crawl away. But one of the men grabbed her by the hair. She let out a cry but quickly shut her mouth as she felt something cold against her neck.
"Now, now" said the man with the knife, "No need to scream. We just wanna have some fun." He laughed. They all laughed.
"So do I." A cold voice said. The men, surprised by the voice, turned to see a person standing behind them. They could not see his face in the shadows. All they could tell was that he was wearing a trench coat and he was smaller than any of them.
"Who the hell are you?" one of the attackers demanded.
"I think the question you should ask is," the mystery man said as he slowly moved towards them, " 'what am I?'" He stood looking up at one of the men. He glared down at him with fire in his eyes. But then the answer came to him and the fire was quickly extinguished. He tried to move back but when the mystery man had entered the alley, it was already too late. The four other attackers soon found their friend slumped next to the wall, nose bloody, neck broken.
"It's a saiyan!" the man with the knife yelled. They took off running. The saiyan just stared after them. He decided to let them go for tonight.
The girl rose to her foot. Her legs shook, she stood straight, and then she started to collapse to the ground. She had barely begun to fall when the saiyan, who had been standing in front of her, caught her from behind.
"That looks bad." He said, touching her cut. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a bean. Holding it in front of her mouth he told her to eat it. She did and the minute she swallowed, her strength returned and the cut closed up. She stood up and turned to thank the saiyan. But he was already gone. She was alone in the dark, rainy alley. Seeing no reason to stand around and get more wet, she picked up her purse and ran for home. Three blocks later, she was banging on the door to be let in. Her mother opened the door and the girl leapt into her arms. And the saiyan watched, from two streets away, floating several stories in the air. When the door closed, he had disappeared.
