It had been a month since Sam Winchester's girlfriend, Jess, had died in a demon created fire. He wasn't handling the passing very well at all. Hiding his sleep deprivation from Dean was becoming futile and it wouldn't be long until Dean would demand a talk. He'd need to tell Dean about the nightmares he was having as well as the ones he had before she died. Dean would be disappointed that Sam didn't do anything to prevent Jess' death when he had the chance. That's what Sam was thinking, anyway.

He felt numb all this time and threw away the life he was creating for himself because none of that mattered with Jess gone. The white picket fence dream Sam had held onto for years burned in the fire with her.

He was sure a part of him was broken, that he would never be able to feel again. He was leaning against the Impala, feeling sorry for himself, when his heart suddenly jumped into his throat.

It was the blonde hair he noticed first, thinking, or hoping, it could be Jess. He was only setting himself up to be disappointed, but this time was different. When the girl turned around and caught him staring, he didn't look down dejectedly and feel even worse because it wasn't Jess, instead he smiled.

His heart was beating faster and his palms were moist. It took him a little while to realize why he was feeling so strange. He thought he would be numb for the rest of his short life, but this girl brought all those nice feelings out from the black abyss inside him.

She gave a little wave and he noticed how delicate her hands were. He was trying to imagine how her small, smooth hand would feel against his big, rough hunter's hand. He waved back and then stuffed his hand into his pocket, feeling shy in front of this beautiful stranger.

As they continued staring at each other, he started to take note of her other features, wanting to remember how she looked as well as the new feelings associated to her. He memorized how her smooth blonde hair framed her flawless, round face. He noticed the way her skin had a beautiful healthy glow. He felt butterflies when her pink lips pulled into a big smile. But the thing he noticed the most was her beautiful green eyes.

She gave a quick nod of her head and continued walking. Sam guessed she was staying at the motel and was on her way to her room.

He didn't know who she was, but he knew he had to see her again.
