Jelly Babies, Cotton, and Heart-beats
The Doctor was brooding.
Again.
Which meant, he would be in a bad mood.
Again.
Which also meant he would snap at or ignore Sarah.
Again.
Sarah sighed and wrapped her arms around her legs. It was cold. Of course, dungeons often were. Cold and wet. And she wasn't dressed for either.
She had walked out of the TARDIS, expecting to be pampered in a spa, when she and the Doctor got arrested for possessing candy. This alien planet actually had a law against candy. She always knew those Jelly Babies were going to get him in trouble one day.
She turned to the Doctor. He was staring off into space, probably contemplating of how to get out. He just had to drop his sonic screwdriver when the guards hustled them away.
Sarah shivered, and decided she had given the Doctor enough time to think quietly; it was time to complain.
"So… the greatest spa, slash resort in the galaxy?" she said, letting the sarcasm drip from her mouth like venom.
He didn't even acknowledge her existence.
Becoming flustered, she tried again. "Doctor, I'm cold and wet. Can't you think of some way to get out of here?"
He slowly turned to her. "Sarah, what do you think I've been doing? Contemplating on the mysteries of life?"
"Sorry," she said. "I'm just cold."
He stared at her for a moment. "Well, you are a little improperly dressed…"
Sarah looked at her bathing suit and shawl. "Oh really?"
"Yes…" he replied, not noticing the sarcaism. He watched her shiver for a moment. Finally, he opened up his arms. "Come here."
Sarah stared at for a moment, making sure he just offered what she thought he offered.
"Well?" he asked.
She crawled over to him, curled up and wrapped herself in his scarf, letting his arms trap her in an embrace. The smell of jelly babies and cotton filled her nostrils.
"Better?" he asked, giving a large, toothy grin.
"Oh, very," she said, a huge smile pratically taking up her entire face.
"Good. Now be quiet so I can figure out how to get out of here."
She nodded and closed her eyes, remembering how exhusted she was. She laid her head on his chest, letting the comforting sound of his heart-beats lull her to sleep. She would take this over a fancy spa any day.
