Maya's POV
As I walk around her room I try to remember the first time I realized I loved her. It must have been at least a year ago. When I saw her kissing Lucas at the school dance. Sure, I had known that I had a thing for her for a long time, but that was when it clicked. That was when I realized I was in love with Riley Matthews.
She must never know. She can't know that I love her. She is straight as a ruler. She will run. She will hide. She will never forgive me for loving her. And I will never forgive myself for hurting her in such a way.
flash forward to the next day in school.
"Hey Maya," says Farkle as I walk into the school cafe.
"What do want weirdo?" I reply. Farkle can get on my nerves sometimes, but he's a good friend.
"Mr. Matthews is looking for you. You missed history. We learned about how LGBTQ people were treated during the 1920s," he says. I know this, of course. That was the whole reason I skipped the class. I just stick my tongue out at him and walk away. We get on that subject and I'll give myself away like that.
Authors note: this idea has been forming in my head for a while. It will be a long story and they will eventually get together.
