Author's Note: The following is sort of a poetic concept album I wrote most of a couple of years ago, and now I'm looking to revise and finish it. I call it a concept album rather than a series of poems because it has recurrent images and leitmotifs - for the latter, think that tune in the Les Miserables musical that signals the person singing it is about to die, or the one that signifies a Thenardier is lying like a rug. That's what I'm going to do a lot with the rhythm and rhyme scheme.
For what it's worth, the manga and anime are assumed to both be true, unless they directly contradict, in which case the manga wins out.
I'll post a poem every other day or so.
ACT ONE: TO FALL FROM A PINNACLE
Paths Meet
One day in November, the bleakest of months,
When the sun seemed to sink aching slow,
He stared from the stronghold, and down to the place
Where paths met in the courtyard below.
Though Future and Purpose flit 'round his left wrist,
Two bands that he might wear in time,
He barely discerned them, so vague and so faint,
And so down to the courtyard he climbed.
When he left the crossroads, his burden was great
As he walked on a new, stranger way:
'Twas the Future and Purpose he held at his side,
So he did not think he had strayed.
