She'd seen the children, of course. When she had been looking for Mr. Incredible, she had done extensive research on this man and his background. Obviously, she'd known about his children.

If she had been following orders completely, she would have told Syndrome about them. It was Mirage's job, after all, to know everything about the superheroes' secret identities. That was partly where her name had come from.

Yes, she'd seen the children. She should have said something about them, but for some reason, she hesitated, and kept silent. And she knew why. Because of the girl. The girl had seemed so fragile and shy. Like a flower that wasn't sure yet whether it should wilt or bloom.

She could hardly believe now that the brave, confident, beautiful fighter the girl had become was the same child she had seen years ago. Mirage thought that she was envious of Violet. Not Invisigirl, the heroine, but Violet Parr, the girl who'd bloomed.

Mirage wasn't strong, really. She needed someone to cling to. Her attraction to power was part of that. Mirage had wilted a long while ago. She hid it well, though. The only person who might have been able to tell that Mirage was a wilted flower was her own mother, whom she'd fallen out with long ago.

No one would ever see more of Mirage than she chose to show. She seemed like the kind of person people needed to see. That was also partly where her name had come from.

People could see all of Violet. Other than her superhero status, the girl had nothing to hide. She was a radiant young woman, a bright blossom. Mirage was wilted under her and calm demeanor.

But even a wilting flower could still be saved with the right kind of care. If someone tended it carefully, properly, it could still bloom. Mirage could still be saved, if someone cared to do it. If someone cared to save her, she could wilt. She wouldn't have to use this name.

And, who better to help her bloom than the girl who she had kept – albeit indirectly – from wilting? Violet was a super. She was used to saving people.

Don't ask me where this pairing came from. I have no idea. Partly because I am fond of femslash as well as slash, and partly because... They both have really pretty hair! (no, that's not my reason, but it's true.)
