A/N--This is a semi-songfic that I thought of while listening to a Beatles playlist on shuffle. I say it is a semi-songfic, because 1) I don't know how songfics "work" and 2) I take the lyrics and change them a bit to make them more like dialogue....hope it's all alright.

---the story---

"Granger." Was all the front of the envelope said.

The witch retrieved the letter from the owl's beak and gave it a treat as payment. The bird promptly flew off, not waiting for a response. Apparently it wasn't one of those kinds of letters. She flipped the letter over to the back where a menacing green wax dragon was staring up at her. Her breath caught in her throat, she had been harboring a secret crush on the Head Boy for a few weeks now, and the sight of his seal caused her to become a bit more flustered than she would have liked to admit. As she moved to break the seal, the dragon came to life and extracted itself from the envelope. It flew up to her shoulder, where it curled up and fell asleep. Confused, Hermione opened the letter and began reading:

"Granger,

I don't like this one bit. I hate you. I hate you because I can think of several things I want to tell you, but when you're around I can't seem to remember any of them.

I don't like playing this game. The game of trying to cope with extraneous feelings. If I seem to act somewhat unkind, or heartless…it's just my upbringing. It's not me, but it is. I know…it confuses me too.

What I'm trying to say is that I hate you because of the way I feel about you…I have feelings for you and it confuses the hell out of me. But if you're willing to wait for me to sort them out before you make any sort of decision then that would be ideal.

Granger, sometimes I wish I knew you better, so that I could be more frank. (Of course this in itself is rather frank and up front)

I want to tell you
I feel hung up and I don't know why
I don't mind
I could wait forever, I've got time"

Hermione retrieved the dragon from her shoulder, it blinked a few times sluggishly, and then yawned. This made the Head Girl giggle. Kissing it's head, she got out a handkerchief and made the small wax dragon a bed on her night stand, then placed it there before exiting her bedroom to venture out in to the Head's shared common room, where the Head Boy sat in an arm chair seemingly doing homework.

"I'm willing to wait." She had walked to the couch, and sat down with out Draco even realizing. His head shot up at the sound of her voice, and he gave a slight smirk.

"I'm glad."
