It was a couple of months ago when Jay had come up to Sean with the idea of getting tattoos. Sure they had talked about it in passing before, but they had never come to any real conclusion. However, Jay had come up with a pretty good idea—getting their girlfriends names on their chest over their hearts.
Sean looked at Jay, "Why?"
"Because, it's the one we love, right? I mean it is with mine, and I know it's got to be with yours."
"Yeah."
Jay was in love with Alex. He didn't always have to say it, but it was true. So Sean agreed. They got enough money and went to the tattoo place. They had to wait for about ten minutes before they got in. Sean thought about Ellie. She was understanding, kind, trusting, they needed each other. Ellie didn't tell anyone about him stealing; she even supported him when he told Mr. Simpson. Yeah Ellie was there for him. She tried to help him with his homework, she helped him plenty.
Jay got up and went in. He came out after a while. "Check this out." He pulled his shirt open so you could see Alex's name.
"Nice."
"Your turn."
Sean went in. Ellie had done so much for him. She really helped him. He never had to explain anything.
"So where am I putting it?"
"Right here on my chest." Sean took off his shirt.
"What am I putting on?"
"A name."
Ellie was a wonderful girl. No one else was like her. The guy gave him a piece of paper. Sean wrote down the name of the girl he was in love with. They guy got the tattoo on and Sean looked down and saw the name of the only one he really loved. The one who was always was trying to help him be a better person. The one who forgave him for things no one should have ever done. Not with all the bad things he had done. The one who helped him get out of trouble, when she should have just turned the other one. The one who made him want to be better. Leave the life that he was so used to. Judge him without really judging him. She tried to help him with fixing his life and never asked questions about it. She trusted him. He knew that when he told her something she didn't doubt him. Even when it seemed less likely to believe him, she did. Sean put on his shirt. He came out and paid.
Jay came up to him. "Let me see."
"It's a name. You've seen it before."
"Yeah, but."
"No. Look let's go."
"Okay."
Sean paused before leaving and looked inside his shirt and saw the name of his one and only true love. Emma.
