Gone

"She's gone."

"No, she's not. She's standing right there."

Everyone looked to the corner of the room, seeing nothing but blank space.

"See? She's waving hi."

"Pearl, I think you need to get your Gem checked."

"No, I don't. My vision is perfectly fine. I can see her. Maybe you two should get your Gems checked."

"P... we know this might be hard for you, but she's not really there."

"She's telling me that you're both wrong."

"Well, we're telling you that she's dead, and there's nothing you could do about it!"

"Amethyst, too far!"

"No, Pearl, why can't you just accept reality like a mature person?"

"Because she's still there! She's still alive, and I know it!"

"No, she's not, Pearl!"

"Pearl, she's gone. That person in your head is just a figment of your imagination."

"But that's not possible! Gems can't hallucinate! She is there! I can see it with my own two eyes! Steven could see her too—"

"NO! Don't you dare—"

"She's still alive! She is still alive!"

"SHE IS NOT ALIVE, PEARL! SHE'S GONE! FOREVER! She's not a Gem. She can't come back because you want her to."

"No amount of delusion would get you anywhere, Pearl."

"But she can't be dead."

"Why not? You saw it too."

"Because she was too young to die!"

"..."

"She had so much life in her. So much potential. So much... happiness. I... I saw myself in her... I know that look in her eyes when she saw Steven, they look so excited. Like mine did everytime I saw Rose. I knew what she'd be to him, something I could never be. So, I kept watch of her progress, I even trained her, guided her to become something greater than any human could be... I put all my effort into it, my student, my protege... I was a mentor. And when she stayed with Steven, comforting him... it's hard to imagine... the permanent... consequences..."

"..."

"Why do I always lose... at everything?"
