I Hope You're Happy

Rain poured down, down from the heavens and onto the lifeless city of Konoha. It was midnight, and all was quiet, except for the sobs of a young woman, and the slow, even beating of my heart.

"Why?" she called. "Why do you always hurt me?" I didn't reply. Instead, I walked away from this town, this life, and more importantly, away from her. "Sasuke…please!" she cried, beginning to run after me.

"Sakura," I began, causing her to stop in her tracks, "I'm sorry, but I have nothing here. Itachi is dead, my own children don't even love me; they can continue the Uchiha clan without me. So give me one good answer why I should even stay." I waited for her answer, if she chose to give one.

"Sasuke-kun," she whispered finally, "you have me. You have our family; you have Naruto, Kakashi-sensei, and everyone in this town that loves you. Please stay!" she begged. I could sense the tears streaming down her face.

"I'm sorry…but that answer's not good enough." It was there that I walked out on her. She was left to raise our children alone, and she didn't even know that I was still watching her, fro a distance. Later, she met another man, one from Suna. They fell in love, and made plans to be married. He would be a good father to my children, a better one then I could ever be. On her wedding day, she didn't even know that I was there, yet again watching her, making sure she would be all right. I still loved her, but could never make her happy.

I hid in the shadows of the church as I watched her walk slowly down the long strech of carpet that led to the alter where her groom stood waiting. i couldn't help but feel a bit sad, but I did give her up; she was no longer the woman I loved, now, she was going to be a new wife, a better one to the man from Suna.

My children looked happy enough; they wouldn't care if they their father wasn't an Uchiha. They didn't love me, so why would they care that they had no resemblance to the man they called "Dad". She whispered the fateful words, and then passionately kissed her new husband.

I sighed. I could have had such a happy life with her, but depression had controlled my life, thus forcing me to leave the only woman who ever loved me. I watched her dance the night away with her new husband. And as I whispered my final good bye to her, I watched the new Subaku no Sakura smile happily at Subaku no Gaara. But what I failed to notice was Sakura whispering a good bye back to me.

The End
