Two Moments to Change a Lifetime

By:

Fear Die Rothaarige

This is the moment that Sasuke Uchiha realizes that he is in love.

The girl that's always by his side, she's there once more. She still had the same smile even when wearing blood lipstick. The same jade eyes that he spent many hours watching before life got in the way are staring at him, too much life left in them for this moment to end. Cotton candy pink hair he had dreams about twisting his hands in was longer than he last remembered; they've both gotten older since they last meet, but this is the end for her and perhaps him as well.

The hands that can destroy cities and heal the wounds of comrades are wrapped around the blade. She doesn't seem to mind that the leather gloves are torn and leaking blood. She won't need them for much longer.

His mind is tormenting him. He is stuck. Stuck in this moment. Stuck looking at the girl with the laugh he loved. Stuck holding the handle of a blood drenched blade. Stuck watching at she dies. Stuck because he is the one that caused this catastrophic collision.

She falls against him, knees no longer able to support her body. He wraps a hand around her and he can't help but cringe when he feels his weight force the blade deeper into her gut. She doesn't feel it. Not with all the blood staining their clothes and skin.

She is a medic, but there's nothing left for her to use. They fought for hours. Fighting harder and stronger than they ever did back in Konoha before he left. Fighting because only one person was going to survive and they both wanted to come out with a heart still beating.

As she slide onto the blade, he saw her eyes up close up for the first time in too many years. He saw it all. The love. The lust. The fear. The hope. The uncertainty. Everything that made up Sakura Haruno was displayed in the moment she realized that this was the end.

It was the moment that he sealed her fate that he realized that she was what had always been meant for his future. The one girl that was his polar opposite that just screamed balance.

He could feel her failing heartbeat against the hand that held her. He could feel the warm sticky crimson that escape from her body. He could all but see the grim reaper waiting for her final breath.

A hand swept her hair from her face and cupped her cheek. He tasted the iron first, but underneath the bitter metallic taste, there is Sakura. There is a sweetness that he felt fit her. Kinda like your favorite piece of candy after not having it for so long. The taste fills you up to the core and as warmth spreads through you, so does happiness and for a few moments, all is right with the world.

"I love you." He breaths against her cheek and he can see the side of her lips turn up in the most genuine smile her 20 years as afforded her.

A moment later, she is gone and Sasuke knows that he just killed his last chance at happiness.

All it took was two moments to change everything.

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto. If I did, Neji wouldn't be dead. And neither would most of the people in Akatsuki. Rest in peace guys! A whole fandom misses y'all!

First fanfic I've completed in like five months. So happy to have finally written something my mind was able to complete. Sorry for any and all mistakes!
