You bob up and down in this monstrous storm. Screams can be heard in the far distance. You look around in the surrounding body of water, unsure of how you got here. The rain pelts down and mixes in with the turning sea, every so often crashing into you making you go under before you paddle yourself back up to the surface. The sky is dark, heavy with clouds. You see a figure beckoning you closer, shining like a beacon of light. You start to swim closer to it, but it seems like it's getting farther away the faster you paddle. You stop to catch your breath, looking at the still distant light. You start to hear something coming from underneath you. The water is dark and murky. You hear garbled noises and movement from beneath you. Something pulls you down. You mistakenly take a sharp breath as you're dragged under, causing your lungs to fill with water. The noises grow louder; your eyes catch a pair of glowing eyes watching you struggle from above. The taste of salt is overwhelming and your vision grows dark.
You snap awake. You feel your chest is heavy and you can't breathe. You leap out of your bed and run to your room's side bathroom. You physically convulse, puking. Your whole body shutters as it starts to leak through your nose. Your eyes water as you finally stop and breathe. Salt water. That's the third time this week, all right after you have that odd dream of drowning. You think it may have to do with that spell.
Your name is Rose Lalonde and you dabble in the dark arts. Black magic if you will. Your curiosity started on your 16th birthday when your friend Eridan gave you a gag gift of a big book on cryptozoology. You read the whole thing cover to cover just to spite him. But I guess the joke is on you since you actually found it to be an impeccable read, so interesting that it had you purchasing books on dark magic and the study of witchcraft. You believed none of it existed, although Eridan claimed those books, that information you gained to be highly dangerous, not to be taken lightly. You just thought he was superstitious.
But you became curious. Could it be true? You tried out a spell that looked easy. Vocasti et clamasti et obscura Siren. It said you would fall in love but you would lose something important in exchange. It sounded too ridiculous to be real, so you took a shot. You set up the candles, burned the incense you use to meditate, set up the mirror, and drew the symbol called sigillum in messe. You concentrated and started the chant:
"O sirenis maris. Ego te ad te. Ad vitam tuam ego vobiscum. Accipe me. Reple me a spiritibus furthist horrorterrors anulus. Mors mihi osculum. Ego praesto ad omnia saecula saeculorum."
The candles blew out and you swore you saw a figure pass in the mirror. The figure didn't quite look… human.
That was 2 weeks ago. You still have not told Eridan about this. You really don't want to, he would freak out. You know exactly what he'd say. "What did I tell you 'bout magics, Rose?! Why would you go 'an cast a spell without fully understandin' it! You're gonna get yourself killed!" To be honest, what were you thinking? I guess you wanted so badly to tell him you told him so. But some part of you just wanted to know. To know if there was really something bigger than yourself out there.
