Lina set the box down on the bench and sat down next to it, shaking. Being that close to a carnivorous mole had scared her more than the blackouts. Doon sat next to her, stiff and shaky.
"You ok?" he asked. When she didn't answer, he reached out his hand and touched her shoulder. "Lina?"
"Don't touch me!" Lina shrieked, jumping up from the bench. She leaned against one of the lockers, sobbing.
Doon was partly surprised at her reaction and partly expecting it. "Lina, we're ok. We're alive! It's ok! Seriously," Doon said, trying to calm her down.
"It's my fault you almost got eaten," she cried, shaking from the cold and her sobs. "If I hadn't gotten you involved, you wouldn't have seen that mole and it wouldn't have seen you…"
"Lina!" Doon exclaimed, leaping up. He stood in front of her. "Look at me!" Lina shook her head, starting to turn away. "Lina, look at me!" Doon grabbed her arm and pulled her to him. "I'm fine, I'm alive, I'm in one piece, see?" He grabbed her hands and set them on his shoulders. "See, I'm here! You don't need to be freaking out like this!
Lina breathed shakily. She touched his shoulders, his arms, his chest, his face. Her lip quivered. "But…you could have died."
"But I didn't! I know your scared, but you don't need to be now-" Lina's lips crashed into his, silencing him. At first, he was taken aback, almost stumbling. But after a minute, he relaxed and slowly wrapped his arms around her waist. He kissed her back.
Suddenly, Lina pulled away, stunned at her own action. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Lina darted through the pipeworks toward the exit. Doon smiled and chuckled awkwardly. He sat on the bench.
"Wow," he muttered, running his fingers through his hair. The dark-haired boy caught a glimpse of the box still sitting on the bench. He smiled, picked it up, and jogged after Lina.
