I have decided to write this only because I fear my
grandchildren might never hear my story, seeing as I probably shall soon see my
judgment. Yes to confirm things I was born in California in the year 1921, what
you didn't know was that I was under the care a black midwife by the name of
Hattie Lewis from my first born day until my fifteenth year. You also didn't
know, that my name was not always Emily Richardson. To this day, I still think
of Miss Hattie Lewis as my mother even though now I know that my mother was
Arielle Aarons of Denver Colorado. I will always remember what she used to tell
me, she said "Don't look for the silver lining, look for the line of gold
beneath the clouds."
I hope you learn to appreciate these words as
well as I have learned to over the years. And after hearing my full story judge
me if you wish, until then save your criticism for the days ahead and the
others that surround you.
