A Day in the Life of a Duelist.
When a child looks up at a deck of amazing cards in a glass case for the first time, they get something special; a memory. Memories that carry you all the way to those dreams you always knew were possible. No two dreams are ever the exact same, yet they almost always are based on the same goal: to be the best. This is where I come in. I'm Jason Hill, a new Ra Yellow freshman at Duel Academy. Well, not quite "at" it since I'm still in the helicopter on route.
To be frank, I look plain, and never got that many girls. My mom claimed my face and black hair were the most handsome features she'd seen since Dad, but then again, they all say that. The fact that I'm pretty tall and not that overweight should help also, yet a relationship just never happened. I'm sure my personality is to blame for all this, as I for some reason can't strike up a conversation with a girl to save my life. Then again, I'm not here to pick up girls. I'm here to learn. I'm here to duel.
So, here I sit, looking over my current deck of spellcasters, trying to focus as this kid with orange hair snores and the blue-haired kid beside him tries to keep quiet. I pull out my Dark Red Enchanter and wipe him down with my handkerchief, remembering the duels I've won by his hand. As I hold it up to get a better look at it in the light, the gleam of Duel Academy shines in through the window. We're here.
We all file out one by one, pushing and shoving to get through. Somehow I make it out of the mob in one piece, and start walking towards the main complex after a good stretch. The whole island seems empty save for us coming off the copter, and with good reason: all the returning students are already inside. We all head down the path, looking off into the distance at the red dorm, getting a good view of my yellow, and passing right by the massive palace of a blue dorm, before walking straight into the colossal main building.
After a short trip through expansive halls, we shuffle into a giant room and stand at attention waiting. I lean against the wall as a the giant head of the headmaster (makes sense) shows up and makes some speech about being the "best and brightest," or something. Anyway, we get our PDAs and are told to get going to the dorms, because class starts tomorrow. I decide to get going and head directly to my dorm, as the crowd finally thins out. As I continue on, some girl randomly comes up to my with a smile on here face. She introduces herself, Megan, was it? It's Jason. I'm in the yellow dorm, room... 237. She's wearing yellow, so she's in my dorm. I'm honestly not paying attention otherwise until she mentions that her brother is in the same room as me. Hoo boy, that'll be interesting. I try to keep it going with her, but now she's going on about how Mindy told Hanna told Kelly told her that Alexis is "totally" ditching Chazz today... Ya know what, I don't need to hear this. I don't enjoy being a party to private secrets.
We finally make it to the dorm, luckily the service brought our luggage here. Boys aren't allowed in the girl's rooms alone, so I say bye to Megan and head for my room. I open the door to my place and find another student – my roommate?- scribbling on the wall. Wait, what? What the heck are you doing to my room?!?! I don't care if it's your room to, I want an explanation! EQUATIONS??? You filled a wall already with them, for Isis' sake! Look.... what's your name? Bastion? Jason, glad to meet you. NOW CLEAN THESE UP!!!
Not quite the welcome I expected...
