A/N: For CrimsonGoldQueen as part of the Drabble Game Challenge.
First time writing Slughorn. Hope's he's done ok.
Enjoy!
"You won't catch me, Padfoot!" James called out as he ran back and forth through the woods before he turned into his Animagus, a deer, and continued running.
"We'll see, Prongs!" Sirius called back as he also turned into his Animagus, a dog. He caught up to James and tackled the deer to the ground. They wrestled a bit until Sirius somehow lost control of himself and bit down into James' deer thigh.
"Aagh!" James changed back into his human form and immediately grabbed his leg. It had begun bleeding, the bite mark red and showing through his pants leg. It was on his lower thigh, right above his knee.
"Merlin!" Sirius covered his mouth with his hands in shock after he turned back into a human himself.
"What-why did you do that?" James asked through gritted teeth, now feeling more pain in his leg.
"I don't know! I wasn't myself, I just did it! It was like an instinct. I'm sorry, James." Sirius tried to help him, but James waved him off.
"Don't touch me!"
"I'll go get a proffesor."
"No."
"James, you're bleeding out. You could get an infection."
"You can't just leave me here!"
"Then what am I supposed to do?"
"I don't know!"
Sirius sighed. "Then let me help you up."
James shifted, uncomfortable.
"I'm not going to hurt you again."
"Promise?"
"You're my best friend, Prongs. I'd never hurt you on purpose." He helped James stand up and had him lean against him with one arm, and continuing his attempt to stop the blood with the other.
They reached the castle, where James nearly collapsed in the courtyard.
Sirius saw Professor Slughorn crossing and ran over to him. "Professor!"
Slughorn turned and raised an eyebrow, seeing the slightest bit of blood on Sirius' face. "What is it? Is something wrong?" he asked, sensing the urgency in his voice.
"James got bit in the leg. He's bleeding, badly. He needs to be taken to the hospital wing."
"And where is the poor fellow?"
Sirius pointed to James, sitting against a bench with his leg stretched out, red.
"Oh, my. Looks like you've lost quite a bit of blood there. Well, let's get you to the hospital so you can get stitched up." Slughorn helped Sirius get James there, though it took a while. The nurse got him on a bed and quickly put him on some painkiller and bandaged the wound.
"How on earth did you get a bite right there? It looks like it's from a large dog," Slughorn asked James.
James looked at the ground. "I thought I could get close to a wolf in the forest, and it got me."
"That was very careless of you, Potter," Slughorn chided before he left, shaking his head.
Sirius smiled at James. "Thanks for not ratting me out. I guess I'm forgiven?"
"Are you kidding? I'll never let you live this down." James smiled.
