Hello fellow fanfictioners!! Well I'm happy to say that after a week of editing and re-editing, I am finally happy with this! This is my first fanfiction and, to tell the truth, the first time I've done creative writing on my own time (as in not for school). So I would HIGHLY appreciate ratings and reviews and any constructive critisism you might have ^^

Anyway this is the part in the book where Kaye asks Roiben to stay until nightfall (page 231). This first chapter is for you to figure out, but its mostly that part of the book in Roiben's POV. Hopefully you'll understand better when I finish the next chapter xD

Anyways, Enjoy!!!

Rath Roiben Rye ran through the dark wood, desperation slowly closing over him.

Running. It seemed as if he knew of nothing else. He was always running for one reason or another. But this time was different; he did not know why he was running, what he was running to.

Or away from.

This thought only made him run faster, pushing the sharp branches away as they scraped at his skin. He didn't notice. He barely felt the pain anymore.

Just as he was beginning to think that the never ending spanse of trees would drive him insane, he saw her. Her hair glistened despite the lack of light, and her dark eyes smoldered as they bore into him.

"Kaye," he whispered.

In his surprise, he tripped, skinning his knees and the palms of his hands on the forest floor. He ignored the dull burning and scrambled to his feet. He set off running again, desperate to reach Kaye.

He ran. And ran. But every time he thought Kaye was within his reach, she would drift away again. She called out his name, her voice sending chills up his spine.

"Roiben…"

Running. Would there every be an end to the running?

"Roiben…"

Kaye's voice drew him to her, giving him strength and driving out all other noise.

"Roiben…"

Gathering up the remainder of his strength, he made one last lurch towards her, arms outstretched. This time, his arms wrapped around her easily.

"Kaye…" he sobbed, gasping for breath. He found himself unable to even imagine ever letting go of her again. He pulled her closer into his chest, burying his face in her hair to quiet his sobs.

A strange cackling laugh reached his ears, but he ignored it. How could such a sound be real when Kaye was near him?

The sound came again, and this time he realized it was coming from under him. He looked down, puzzled, his eyebrows creasing together in confusion.

What he saw then caused him to jump back, letting go of Kaye as if she has electrocuted him. His mouth dropped open and he watched in silent horror as her skin slowly began to turn green, her eyes turning black and her fingers elongating. Still cackling, she shot a sinister grin in his direction as paper thin green wings shot out from the skin on her back.

His muscles froze, rooting him to the spot. His brain was telling him to run, scream, do anything to get away from the girl who was transforming in front of his eyes. But his body wouldn't comply.

Then he was falling. Blackness surrounded him as he screamed, swiping at the air for something to hold on to. The last thing he saw was Kaye hovering over him, her cackle still filling his ears and chilling him to his core. Then everything went black as he slipped into unconsciousness…
