Checkmate

Okay so I'm like supposed to be doing homework right now, when suddenly, out of the blue and idea for a second one shot hits me, a sort of continuation of another one shot I did that some of you have read [hopefully], it was called My Colonel, and I wrote it two years ago, a good one I do believe. So to fully understand this one you should first read that one and then come back here. There will likely be a third one to follow this one as well, now that my writers block is finally gone. =3 Enjoy the story.

How did you think this would turn out in the end? Did you think it would be a perfect happily ever after? Hardly. In real life I have learned thing never end that way, though it does leave me longing for the childhood stories that ended in 'Happily Ever After'. No beautiful music plays as the princess rides off into the sunset with her prince.

No our story is a story of never ending battles, fighting to become what we had been in the past. One of us has been lost to them already, we refuse to lose another. Even separated and spread across the world we fight vehemently and fiercely. I believe this surprises them, since they seemed to think by separating us like this it would make us weaker and our loyalty to him would suffer. Now they see that they couldn't have been further from the truth, this seems to have given us a bond nothing will ever break.

They will never break us, never and even if they end up destroying him… that will hurt us but instead of breaking we will strike at their heart as well. I stand next to this man now, day after day, my sharp gaze following him, the one I truly follow whenever I see him. The man who I am forced to guard notes this and mocks me, but it hardly bothers me, for I have faced far worse in the Ishballian war as well as when dealing with families that have lost loved ones.

They believe they can keep the two of us from ever meeting, ever planning against them, but we have several common friends. Our fallen comrades wife and daughter always welcome us to their home, they seem more joyous then us. The child spends her time playing and living in her childish delights even with the loss of her father, funny how such a small thing has a better coping mechanism than he or I. The girl's mother hides her pain well, but I have been trained well, and know the woman as a friend of mine, I can see the pain and we will do what it takes to make sure her husbands death was not for naught, that would be the worst thing of all.

Our plans are coming together and the others are as aware are we, this game, this brilliant match is coming to an end rather rapidly. We know where each of us stands, and where our allies stand, and we have a wide and rather ranged assortment of allies they'd have never even guessed to expect. The upcoming war will be harsh, but it won't be like the war we all fought in before, this will be a subtle war of silent attacks and swift slayings. Something kept out of the eye of the public.

And this battle will not end until we are all united once more and stand strong together against the enemy and my Colonel wins the game, this endless chess match with a simple word.

"Checkmate."
