"Mom! Take me home, please."
Tarika looked intently into the eyes of her 9 year old, desperately trying to find signs of remorse, of ingenuousness…. Oh, something !
In her mind, she knew that it was like trying to find light in the darkness. A few words exchanged in the courtroom echoed in her ears.
He is not capable of remorse.
He is a threat to the society.
He needs help.
Stop!
He is a sociopath.
No! Stop!
The fire he set endangered hundreds of lives.
Sociopath.
Tarika begged the relentless voices inside her head to stop as she watched her son being taken away by men in uniform.
Sentenced to Juvenile home until he turns 18.
With each frantic effort she made, the memories became more alive. She was helpless...just as helpless as she was when they made accusations over accusations on him in the court, when the defense lawyers were silenced, when the judge declared him guilty… all she could do was stand there and watch them condemn him… her baby.
She then turned to the man standing beside her, the only person in the whole world who knew exactly what she was going through.
"Abhijeet! You're going to get my baby back...get him back!"
He just looked at her.
Oh he was as helpless, as powerless… as broken as she was.
Tarika grabbed his shoulders and shook him.
"Do you hear me? You have to get my Arnav back… I don't care what you do or how you do it. Use everything you have - every connection you have, all experience you have, all information -"
"Tarika…" Shreya put an arm around her shoulder.
As she saw her best friend, Tarika broke down in her arms, crying violently. As she saw her best friend, Tarika broke down in her arms, crying violently. Her burning cheeks brushed against Shreya's neck as she rested her head on her shoulder. Her eyes puffed up, her breathing erratic, she could barely control the tremors of her body.
"Sh...Shreya," she gasped as she spoke, "My….baby…"
Shreya just rubbed her back, taking her towards her car, for no words could offer comfort at a time like this.
As Tarika walked away with Shreya, she looked back at him, at the way he stood there, frozen in his place, her eyes teary, her gaze piercing.
So guys… here is one on married Abhirika - totally not my comfort zone. But I wanted to post this for a while… let me know what you think. Should I continue?
